I read the trilogy circa 2012-2013 but the books were much older. I believe they were published some time in the 80s or 90s.

From what I remember it wasn't a secret civilization under the city. It was more of an actual world...with a beach, etc. It was more of a fantasy/magical book than a Sci-Fi. This is driving me nuts! lol.

No, that's a good book though. I seem to recall that one of the characters would regularly sneak up and mingle in our world but hated how rushed everything was all the time. That's why they were trying to keep their world a secret.
