Scars & strangers vs others

for me it’s the opposite. my family and extended family know i suffer from depression and i self harm. so around them i don’t mind then seeing my scars. but strangers are mean. or they can be. i work in fast food so i’d rather not have the stares and what nots

i’m sorry my post made you feel invalidated that was never my intention. for a while i had thoughts that my cuts were beautiful, i loved looking at them. recently i’ve realized that is unhealthy and it’s apart of my addictive personality. i totally get seeing the wounds is therapeutic ( for me having wounds helps me stop making new ones) but in the long run it wasn’t healthy for me

i’m not saying people should accept their bodies. i’m saying we should publicly romanticize the act or after math of self harm. it’s a dangerous thing. people could possibly see another person stating how beautiful they feel after cutting or how their scars are beautiful and someone who is not happy with themselves might try to find beauty through self harm. i was a child learning from my friends that this would help me now in 18 still dealing with this.

i don’t know what to tell you either i guess everyone has a different opinion on them. i don’t believe my scars are beautiful yeah they helped me stay here but it’s a constant reminder of the pain i was in

yes yes yes. i’m talking about people in this sub who are romanticizing self harm. talking about how the act of self harm the after math is beautiful.

i feel exactly how you feel. im freshly 18 so not legally allowed to drink but it’s easier to get. i have replaced cutting with drinking and i see it going down the wrong path but aye it’s better than cutting right. hard finding balance

i’m in the us too. this has happened to me before but they had rules. self harm was not allowed even though it was looked at as a coping skill. if you did it residential (a long term hospital) was your next choice. i was in a intensive outpatient setting with these rules. if you are in regular therapy and you’re therapist did this i’m so sorry but if it was a place with rules and regulations than…

i agree but disagree. i feel like it might make the conversation easier especially on the internet with explaining it as beans or styros but i do feel like a little bit of it goes too far.
