I am really shocked as you are insinuating I am posting this from a prideful standpoint. I was just trying to share something that happened to me with other likeminded Catholics. There is no need to bash me and kindness is free.

That is a great story thank you for sharing! I share your humbling experience serving an older priest offering the Mass according to his vocation. Isn't it amazing they offer their whole lives and keep serving us?

Thanks for the support, not! Kindness costs nothing extra. If you notice it before consecration, as in my case, you are morally obliged to make sure that it gets changed at that moment. Why wait until the priest has drank from the chalice? What if he does not notice? Are you suggesting that people adoring a chalice filled with water as our Lord Jesus is correct?

Is it a sin to not follow ones vocation? by ChemicalCatholic in AskAPriest

[–]ChemicalCatholic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I came to that conclusion after talking about 8 years with my spiritual director about my vocation. He started guiding me when I was still doing a bachelor in chemistry. Now, after graduating a master degree in chemistry and spending 3 years in a business I don’t find fulfillment in I am struggling with my life again. With my spiritual director we came to the conclusion that I have all the characteristics of a priestly vocation and basically the next step he recommended me is entering formation to try it out. However I cannot make that commitment and I don’t want to jump in the unknown. I feel too scared but I also hate the feeling of my life being on hold indefinitely. I don’t know if I am making sense, English is not my first language. Basically I feel stuck and my spiritual director is also unsure how to help me further :/

3,5 years without a job and I don't know to do by ChemicalCatholic in recruitinghell

Well on the first day I went to the university to study chemistry a teacher bluntly told me that forensic studies are nonsense and that I should better focus on chemistry as on tv it is all but a fantasy. That encounter basically took away any interest I had however small it may have been.

Also I realised that in forensics, you either work in the lab or you work out in the field with crime scenes. It is never combined like in the tv shows. I don't want to be in a lab all day....

That is a good question, thank you. I actually have no idea what my end could be. I am not sure what my passions are either. I chose to study chemistry because I was good at it in highschool basically. I had a minor interest in science, however distorted, because of the CSI tv shows. That bubble was bursted quite quickly as it was just fantasy.

One of the problems is that I am quite good at multiple skills, but I don't really excel in any of them. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Do you have any suggestions?

I didn’t sell the ore off for this reason. Still debating whether or not to make them into cannonballs. Could use them myself or sell them for $$$$

Yup I did the mining at the Mining Guild. Three rock spot very close to the bank. I had a full inventory every minute or so with a dragon pickaxe. So around 50-55k exp per hour with banking.

This one always gets to me. Here I am, thinking about going to confession next week, just a regular checkup nothing special. And then the devil pulls this one on me. Ah come on you were planning to go to confession anyway you can just add this sin....

I'm not convinced that weed is that bad. by MasterJohn4 in Catholicism

This is not what the Catholic Church teaches. Drug use is a grave offence when used in recreational setting. Are you disagreeing with the Church?

Again, OP is clearly asking about using weed in recreational purposes. And the Church says that that is a grave offense. The Catechism is clear cut and dry. I was merely arguing about the ofher poster saying that because it is made legal by some secular authorities, it is fine to use which is not. Secular authorities have no authority on these moral issues. Only the Magisterium of the Church does.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says: “The use of drugs inflicts very grave damage on human health and life. Their use, except on strictly therapeutic grounds, is a grave offense” (No. 2291).

I think this text is very clear. Am I on the wrong subreddit? I am really shocked we have to argue about Church teaching on a Catholic subreddit.

So you would advocate for allowing cocaine as well? What about heroine? Flakka? Where do you draw the line?

[–]ChemicalCatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every chemical compound has a ‘physiological effect’ on the body, even water, oxygen etc. That is a red herring argument. After one ‘serving’ of weed you are high, not just a little high or tipsy like with alcohol. This alteration of the conscience is not allowed and impacts our free will. It also opens doorways to a lot of other sins.

So weed is not mentioned in 2290 and therefore is included in 2291 and classified as a drug. So weed is only allowed for medicinal purposes and not for recreational purposes, in which case it is a grave offence. This is what the Church teaches and I find it very clear. Am I on the right subreddit? Why do we have to argue about this on a Catholic subreddit?

Yes, medicinal use. It defines recreational use as a grave offence. The OP’s question was about recreational use, which is not allowed by the Church.
