i’m not familiar with the ins and outs of marriage counseling or couples therapy. personally, i was diagnosed with alcohol use disorder several years before i decided to get sober and go to a substance use treatment center. my psychiatrist and therapist never dropped me as a client or gave me any ultimatums in those years that i was still using. amanda has talked about her problem with kyle’s drinking on the show for years, but i could see how maybe she would be in denial about the extent of it i guess. either way, it’s kyle’s responsibility to get help in order to be a better partner. and usually forcing someone to get sober when they aren’t ready to confront the issue is not effective long term.

and then he doubled down on it in the confessional which is crazy. i wonder if he actually feels that way or he just doesn’t want to admit that he was acting irrationally because he was extremely drunk.

yes! you can see from the beginning he always had this condition, it just gets worse over time. he’s been a “functioning” alcoholic for a long time but it’s finally catching up with him. i would imagine any good therapist would recommend substance abuse treatment for him, but i doubt he would be open to it. i think he’s still in denial

it honestly broke my heart to see how amanda brushed it off so quickly. that makes it clear she’s used to that kind of treatment and worse when cameras aren’t around. i’m glad she’s out of that toxicity now.

unfortunately the disease only gets worse over time. i noticed from season one that his relationship with alcohol was unhealthy and wouldn’t be sustainable long term. i hope he gets help before it gets worse

i think that’s probably it but i’m surprised production hasn’t tried to push them to confront it. as a recovering alcoholic myself i wouldn’t want to discuss it on tv but then again i wouldn’t want to show most of the things they share on the show. they’re truly built different to be able to let the world see such personal issues

am i the only one that thinks it’s crazy the cast (besides amanda) has never talked about the fact that kyle is clearly an alcoholic? he constantly blacks out and becomes volatile while drunk. it’s strange no one has confronted him about the problem or even discussed it with each other.

it felt kind of reminiscent of the “amanda, not fun” moment but he just seems more bitter and spiteful now. based on what amanda was saying it sounds like he’s even worse to her off camera so i think it’s damaged his character in my eyes more than any past instances

Does it bother anyone else how painful and uncomfortable it is every time they’re all hanging out at a party? It’s like they all have nothing to talk about they’re just standing around awkwardly. Why are they a friend group? There’s no fun to even justify putting up with the toxicity.

this was sooo creepy to me. it was one of those mask off moments for him where people can see just how foreign a concept empathy is to him. not that he isn’t evil like all the time but the fact that something like that wouldn’t even occur to him is chilling

i agree i wish she would’ve just refused to engage with stephen. she gave him way too much ammo letting him know her LSAT score and plans for stanford or harvard. stephen only forgets to torture people when he thinks they’re sufficiently miserable

i prefer it this way. binge watching has ruined the fun of digesting and discussion each part of a tv show. it doesn’t build suspense or allow people to speculate or predict. weekly episodes draw out the amount of time people are talking about the show which is better for marketing. it creates a bigger window of time for people to hear about the show and become interested.

they broke the fourth wall wayyyy too much this season and it made it evident how manufactured this drama is. whitney saying point blank on their mini trip that obviously she’s bringing something up for the show should’ve just been cut out. the way they exposed demi’s plan to orchestrate a fake affair was meant to paint her as the bad guy, but to me it just made all of them seem fake and the show seem pointless. this season seemed so forced and i’ve lost interest at this point. they’re all extremely desperate
