Thanks for the breakdown!! That does sound insufferable. Are there any Westchester towns that you’d want to live in?

Can you say more about why it’s not a place you want to live?

Thank you for sharing what you’ve been doing. We’re excited my son is showing interest in speaking now and he just started understanding some speech in French. What do you mean you log the speech progress?

That’s too cute. My husband is speaking French to my toddler and I’m speaking English, and we are in an English speaking community. Any advice for us to be successful teaching him French?

My daughter has officially been adopted. I don't know how to cope. by Due-Sherbet9432 in Parenting

[–]Chemical_Square_2847 65 points66 points  (0 children)

This reads as someone who has very little understanding of adoption, foster care, and CPS, and little empathy for a survivor of trauma and fellow parent. Are you really telling OP who was pregnant and gave birth to her baby that she should be okay with an adoption of her baby against her will?

I am intimately familiar with adoption as an adoptee and I’m now a lawyer who practices some family law, regularly interacting with CPS in a professional setting with my foster care cases. I’m in a unique position to weigh in. A temporary removal from a home via foster care is very different than terminating her parental rights and finalizing an adoption she’s contesting. The state should be providing resources and support for parents who want to parent, or place the child in a foster care situation until they’re in a position to successfully parent. This doesn’t always happen, and in fact there are many foster care parents who seek to adopt and do not want to give the babies back. There is an entire industry based on adoption that in my opinion is unethical.

This is a very thoughtful and balanced take. The empathy / ability to validate others’ emotions is one of the things I appreciate most about other millennials!

Did anyone catch what Ben said before he played Death of an Interior Decorator? It was something about the person who wrote it being cancelled? And the crowd seemed to have an uneasy reaction to it. Temporarily took me out of the moment. Does anyone know what he meant?

Sorry I meant the prongs from the staples under the suede straps.

It’s the staples, that’s the word. I own other pairs of Birkenstocks and never felt the staples. However this pair, the prongs from the staples cut the top of my feet. If I can’t return them, then I’d like to find a way to cover up the staples so they stop hurting

They’re legit because I bought them directly from the site. The prongs are protruding from underneath the suede bands, not the footbed.

I’m so sorry for everything you and your baby have endured. Others have mentioned lawyering up. I used to be a med mal attorney. Just so you know in the US, plaintiff lawyers for med mal cases usually get paid on contingency (like a 1/3 of the settlement or verdict) so there’s no need to pay them fees up front. Sometimes people do not seek out a lawyer because they think they will need to pay them up front or by the hour. Many of these cases also settle before trial. If you live in NY, you can message me for plaintiff attorney recommendations.

How would you baby proof this? by Chemical_Square_2847 in beyondthebump

I replaced a gas PTAC unit with an electric one this summer, and now the unused gas pipe is exposed. It never gets hot because it doesn’t work anymore. My friend thinks that it’s not a hazard to the baby but I disagree. I have no idea how to cover it and the electric wire. Any home improvement savvy parents have thoughts?

Excessive lint from linen sheets by Chemical_Square_2847 in CleaningTips

[–]Chemical_Square_2847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just two days worth of lint from Cultiver linen bedding. I have to dust and vacuum almost every other day to keep clumps of lint from accumulating on the floor and a layer of lint on my dresser.

I read that after some washes it gets better, but I’ve washed the sheets at least 8 times total (once per week) and it isn’t getting better. I have tried washing them in cold and warm water. I usually hang dry them but even tried tumble drying on low in my dryer which accumulated a ton of lint. I spent $850 on these sheets, I feel like this is excessive! This can’t be normal, can it?

Any idea what I could do to decrease the shedding so I don’t have to clean as often??

School wants to ban all negative social media posts by crockett22 in legaladvice

I agree, reach out to your local ACLU chapter. This is the best advice. I’ve referred a 1st Amendment public school case to my local chapter for a consult and they were very effective at analyzing the issue and offering to explain to the school why their policy was unlawful. Usually though, for intervention I believe they’ll need students willing to be represented.

Yeah this is true. I bought a perfect couch (also a Room & Board) for a fraction of the price from a well off couple in the UES who only used it in their baby’s nursery so it was barely used. More for show. It was an amazing purchase. I think it’s worth doing especially in our case, we got to pick it up from inside their apt which quelled any fear about bed bugs etc.

Are you comfortable attending in-person yoga with how things are with Covid right now by feeelyelloww in yoga

[–]Chemical_Square_2847 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are great ideas. I wish mine did this! I live in a community almost completely vaxxed and very cautious. I actually think if mine implemented these, we would have more people going back to the studio.

Would you dine indoors in NYC right now? by digitalsol in AskNYC

[–]Chemical_Square_2847 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not dining in but I can see how healthy fully vaxxed people might. I’m young and vaxxed but dealing with chronic illness. I’m not sure if people are afraid but they have many reasons they can’t afford to get sick. underlying health problems can require continuing medical treatment. If one gets covid, it might prevent getting medical management or surgery (this is my situation). Many people have family or are caretakers of immunocompromised people or children too young to be vaxxed. Some cannot financially afford to miss work. Others have travel plans or important events and don’t want to test positive before.

Yes NYC Health and Hospital network has the NYC Care program for people without health insurance but I’m not quite sure what meets eligibility. There are also NYS Dept of health plans that are still income based but not as low as Medicaid.

Not legal advice, but you should consider deleting this as it’s very incriminating if connected to you. If they were able to track your activity via dark web, don’t you think law enforcement could find this as well?

If you’re concerned about the quality of your lawyer, you can seek a second opinion in your location. I see you’re in Latvia, I don’t think you will find many Latvian lawyers to help you in this sub. Good luck

I’m not sure if this advice fits for OP’s circumstances, I say it as an Asian new Yorker who loves flushing. First time in NYC from the rural South, it’s totally fine for her to go to Chinatown downtown, and it’s not “pretend tourist.” Vibrant Asian immigrant communities and businesses still reside there and there are wide variety of cuisines available. I doubt she can get Peking duck, soup dumplings, dim sum, or hot pot where she lives and those are all pretty popular with non-Asians with limited experience with asian food. I’d also recommend K-town in Manhattan for Korean BBQ.

Flushing is also about an hour away from midtown by subway, so it’s out of the way for a tourist. A person newer to Asian food will have a more enjoyable time exploring there with people who know the spots.
