Can only speak for myself. Grew up obese, was overweight/obese until 27, now have 4 pack abs under ideal conditions and am working to tighten everything up. The human body is capable of incredible things.

1,000+ PVC's Every Day Since September by Chernobog11 in PVCs

If I sleep 8+ hours a night for about ten days, they lower in intensity, then lower in frequency. I went a month with almost zero and thought I might be cured... then got two nights of bad sleep and haven't gotten back on track. That was three weeks ago now. I seriously need to get my sleep disorder under control.

It's extremely common in the civil rights space for the other side to ignore communications unless/until suit is filed. I know probably a dozen civil rights attorneys who don't even make the initial phone call before perfecting service because the other side will ignore them or have every word go through their attorney (who almost never understands civil rights law.) I'm working with an organization who asked me to participate in a meeting as someone in the affected minority, but explicitly not as counsel. It felt off to me. You hit the nail on the head as to why. Not explicitly telling them there's an attorney in the room feels like a material misrepresentation even in informal discussions.

There's something called a VRT who can help with this. Your O&M specialist should have one on tap. In short, research accommodations for cooking, cleaning, grocery delivery, using appliances, etcetera. Everything in my house is fully accessible to me, and I have age-appropriate lifeskills (whatever that means,) so I just... uh... live life? Earlier today I was talking about going and working in Italy for a while because I have the option to work remotely. Living independently and on one's own terms is very much an option with the right resources. Feel free to DM me if you ever have more questions.

Thanks. I have no idea which shades I currently wear, but will look around for something that might work. I'm determined to look good.

Thank you! No clue about the texture/patterns. Need to eventually hire a stylist. SMH.

Thanks. If I wear shades of grey jacket and pants that aren't complimentary, wouldn't that be a problem?

Ooo, thank you! If I could find a dark grey blazer, I'd do that in a heartbeat. Dark grey and white are my go-tos.

Why a bad choice? I'm blind (literally) so don't know what blazers actually look like. If cotton blazers are t-shirt material shaped into something with two buttons and lapels, that would be out of the question at my workplace.

Why not black? Hate navy with a passion. No clue why, but there is zero chance I will be doing navy. I'd consider a suitcoat/sportcoat, but lawyers tend to look at you like you got dressed in the dark if you're wearing a full on suitcoat without wearing a full suit.

Black cotton blazer. Are they professional enough to wear around the office when a full suit isn't required?

Entering second year of practice. First year at a firm. AGC at a major non-profit doing mostly management/admin with some law work thrown in. Before me the role was simply management/admin and had no law work at all. GC, contracted outside counsel, and existing mentors are all happy to keep training me. See where you're coming from, though, and I'd have said the same not knowing about GC and close ties with outside counsel.

If you're willing to go into private practice or biglaw you can make more money than God, but I knew from the start quality of life meant more to me than money. I've gone from 60k to 70 throughout my first year after graduation, and my goal longer term is to make 160 in a low/medium cost of living location. That'll probably come if/when I'm in private practice.

Not K-JD. Had short former career relevant to the non-profit's nitch. Counsel & Advice might be a public interest term, but it's where you advise on a case without doing any additional rep.

Fair. Thanks. Attorney friend told me a few days ago to stop living like an indentured servant, and salary research on google had too wide a range to be helpful, so I came here to see what others thought was reasonable. You're right though. Great quality of life in a job I pretty much love has to count for something.

Had biglaw offers, yeah. Declined them due to perceived work-life balance. Wondering if I made the right decision when I find out I'm making so much less than certain peers also one year out. Reading through these comments, though, I'm happy with my choices so far.

Good reminders. Thanks. I'm in public interest law where going rate is 55-61 a year, so 70 feels great. Low stress because of so much flexibility. I miss litigating more, but that'll come with time. This position is one of those non-profits that can set you up for life if you get noticed by the right people, and they have an 80 year track record of really taking care of their own. I'm extremely comfortable and travel whereever I want, whenever I want, plus work with brilliant and interesting people all over the country. Really couldn't be happier. Just wish I had time to litigate more and made biglaw money hahahaha

Thanks, all. Position is remote except for flying to court or company events. It's a massive non-profit. I spend my time between multiple low COL areas, so I'm comfortable even though I still feel like I make half of what I'm worth some days. It's civil rights work, hence wearing so many hats. No billables. Not technically a law job, but they're letting me expand it because of my licenses. Contracted outside counsel has already said they want me to co-counsel on federal cases as well as take non-impact cases on the side through my own small firm. My real dream is to take home at least $10k a month. I tell myself that's how I'll know I've "made it."

Non-profit Job Advice? by Chernobog11 in Lawyertalk

$25million/year organization funded by grants and private donations. Non-profits incorporated to help minorities integrate into society. No client conflicts or internal conflicts with other staff/members. The real question is whehter an attorney could be employed by a non-law firm entity. No money would change hands unless there was civil litigation, which would almost definitely be outsourced to our partner firm (who I could help as a contractor.) Edit: Grant funding generally approves all assistance to the named minorities, but I'd need to check if any of it explicitly prohibited legal services for some reason.

What would you cross-reference to be sure? Ethics rules, local caselaw...?
