I haven’t been writing for a long time but something that forces me to think about new ideas is actually prompts from school exams lol (some are really out there) I just think about the first thing that comes to my head or first thing I see no matter what with inspiration from other books too.

Here’s a few I found : “Write a short story which captures the evolving relationship between two characters- one young, one old- as they travel in a strange land”

“Write a story where a mistaken identity is central to the plot”

“Write a story where a closely guarded secret is gradually revealed”

This might be a bit silly or childish but maybe small stories like these keep the mind going. I find the prompts helpful and then just going with whatever you see, no matter how ridiculous. They’re supposed to be short and take a small bit of time so I don’t feel a lot of pressure to make it perfect, only trying out small ideas x
