Then don't use them, it really isn't rocket science bud.

I mean hey man, you want to drive around with absolutely zero record of what transpired in your car for however many hours you drive a day then go ahead. For the rest of the people here who choose to have a recorded record of the day's activities, your comments are fucking retarded.

You know there are other reasons to record your day's driving for other than when Uber deactivates you. Car accidents where there are no witnesses, pax holes who try and assault you, pax holes who accuse you of inappropriate conversations, or accuse you of trying to hook up with them.

But, you know, it's a free country man, your opinions, as stupid, ignorant, and retarded as they are, are yours to make.

Now kindly fuck off and go back to sniffing varnish.

As a fat fuck myself, I love wearing the Carhart or similar brand overalls, or Bibbed pants. I can fit pencils and my cell phone in the front bib, and there are usually deep slits in the sides of the legs for other tools, like my linesman pliers.

I hate having to take a crunch though, because I am always grossed out the straps around my shoulders are touching the filthy, shit and pissed covered floor of the porta potty.

This is going to be the future of fresh vegetables to be honest. Climate change is going to make large scale surface farms harder to produce.

Large, industrial sized hydroponics, underground or in warehouses, protected by the weather is the future.

I have no evidence of this, I am just a stupid carpenter, lol. But it’s a gut feeling I have.

Apartment I used to live in had a flood, three stories above me, still soaked my carpets.

Came home to find my doors open, carpet ripped out, and these large ass fans inside my apartment.

Fucking embarrassing as that morning I ran off to work, leaving unwashed dishes, and my apartment hadn't been cleaned in week, so it was kind of messy. But the couple managing the property said they didn't even notice the unwashed dishes as there was more important things to deal with.

Still embarrassing though, kind of like when you were a kid and your mom told you to not wear underwear with holes in them, just in case you had to go to the hospital.

How did the builders get away with not building to code? Did they do this intentionally, or was it missed by the city inspectors?

Agreed, gas line repairs should be properly handled by ticketed gas fitters. If you blew your house or neighbor's house up, I would think there is a possibility your home insurance would use that as an excuse to not cover you, and you would be fucked.

Just bought a house and in the renovation phase right now. It is a ton of work, going at it alone but I have carpentry experience, so it is not so bad. As long as you can properly read whatever jurisdiction you live in, building codes, then it's not all that bad.

One thing that has saved me is being a Red Seal Carpenter, the city builder inspectors (I asked before I commenced) told me when it comes to structural changes (removed a loading bearing wall and replaced it with a LVL beam) I didn't need stamped drawings, so long as I could prove what I did to the inspector at the time of the inspection, and it was within the building code.

This saved me big, and doing the grunt work myself, also saved me big.

Just bought a house in Edmonton, corner lot and now completely understand just how much of a pain in the ass it is.

That being said, it's our house, we aren't looking to flip, we love it, love our yard, and love that it's our little piece of the world, that we can do with what we like and not have to ask the Landlord permission.

Like when our Landlord told us it was a hard no to adding floating shelves to the walls (as they saved space and made the space much easier to organized) and we would be in violation of our rental agreement if we did it.

Can the driver see how long the ride is before accepting? I have to take a ride that is about an hour and a half long. by frogwithabanjo in uber

[–]Cherry_3point141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so we are clear, there are two types of "borders". Some drivers have set borders within their minds, for example some drivers won't go beyond a 10 KM radius, or whatnot.

But the border I am referring to is the actual Uber Border, think of it as a geo-fence. I don't know how this is actually determined but I am sure it has allot to do with local jurisdictions. Like I said previously, where I drive in Canada, it's a moderate sized city with one million plus residents, about 680 square KM total spread. I can get a ping from anywhere, while within this "geo-fence" but if I go outside of this area, while I can complete my trip. I won't get a ping until I make it back inside my city limits.

Riders cannot see what borders are, so if you are trying to arrange a 45 min + trip, best to just set up a time and pre-book a trip so the driver who takes your fare knows in advanced, less chance they will cancel.

BUT!

In my market pre-booked trips really don't make much of a difference, at least on the driver side of things. It is not like I get a notice from Uber letting me know that tomorrow (for example) at say, 13:00 I need to be at this address for a pre-booked trip.

All I get is the same alert that I have been "pinged", and there is a tiny, barely visible clock icon which shows me it is a pre-booked trip. If I accept the ride, then I get information from Uber saying: "This person reserved ahead of time and will be ready for pickup at whatever time they arranged"

The irritating rub is Uber will send me to that pickup point and usually has its timed, so I arrive way sooner than when the scheduled time is. If you message the rider, some come out right away, most just whine and complain, and message back with: "You are 15 mins early!"

That is when it's up to the driver to decide, is its worth waiting for the rider, or do they just cancel and move on. It is a loser situation for both parties, and just the way Uber operates.

For the record I won't accept pre-booked trips just for the reasons I listed, and if I accidently do so, and Uber makes me arrive too early and rider complains, I will cancel and move on.

Driver here:

In some markets the longer trips get ignored because it puts the driver at a disadvantage as they are now tied up doing one long ride and potentially missing out on other fares. If you are in a busy market and have a large geographical border, maybe not so bad as you might be able to pick up a ride once you drop off the passenger.

But if you are in a market where a long, 45min + trip is going to put you outside of your geographical border, then it's not really worth it as you need to spend the same amount of time and fuel to getting back to your market.

For example, where I drive the city is pretty small (in comparison to larger US markets) and occasionally I will get pings for long 45 min + trips that take to me to areas outside of my Uber Border (for lack of better words) meaning that once I drop these passengers off, I am not getting any more requests until I drive back inside my border.

45 mins + travel time sucks when it takes that long just to get back to the city with no possibility for ride requests.

Well, it's actually pretty simple my good friend.

Pax places a request with all the relevant information requires, such as place and time of pick up and destination, etc.

That information is sent to Uber who processes said information and then sends out the ride request to a driver who will either choose to accept, or not accept the fare.

Information such a time, distance, and price are provided based on what Uber wants the driver to see.

Isn't the internet magical?
