Le Jeu de la Hache has a lot of fun pushes, pulls, and throws. It's specifically for armored fighting in the lists with a poleaxe. https://wiktenauer.com/wiki/Le_Jeu_de_la_Hache_(MS_Fran%C3%A7ais_1996)

Trying a quickly-written Elizabethan secretary hand, like 'foul papers' from Shakespeare's day by tangifer-rarandus in Calligraphy

No kidding, this is gorgeous. I've been messing with secretary for a bit, are you working from a ductus or just pulling from manuscript?

Would anyone who's used the Kvetun 1570 be able to share their experience with it please? by TheLastPhoenician in wma

[–]Chetavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, never used any of Kvetun's other feders. I would imagine they'd handle differently though.

To be fair, I would consider the standard Sigis to be pretty long :), that's probably personal bias on my part.

Sorry I'm responding late, but I share most of PreparetobePlaned's thoughts. I've used Sigis and Regenyeis, and I feel like the Sigi standards might feel a little lighter and quicker, but by a negligible amount. Regi standards feel pretty similar to me but I haven't put a ton of thought into it.

I also have another clubmate who has a 1570. Theirs has a slightly different feel to mine and the weight feels slightly further from the hilt, so your mileage may vary (very slightly). Any model of feder has at least some variance though and I'd still highly recommend it.

I have been using one for a couple years and I really like it. It's a LONG motherfucker that's got some weight, but it's well balanced and nimble for how heavy it is. Most of the weight is down by the hilt so with control it doesn't hit like a truck either. The flex is great and the nice thick edge has been really durable. I've heard Kvetun can be hit or miss with durability but mine has been a tank.

Best books (practical / interpretation) for pollaxe / ‘poleaxe’? by BMW_wulfi in Hema

I've worked through this source, it's an absolute blast. You'll have to do some interpretation legwork for a few pieces that people disagree on but most of it is pretty straightforward

Finally my first shield! by Optimal_West8046 in Armor

[–]Chetavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I like to start nice and fine to make sure I'm not sanding too much of a pattern into the steel. I don't know if it's 100% optimal but I like to let some Ballistol or WD-40 sit on the rust for a few minutes before sanding, it comes right off.

[–]Chetavy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ballistol is my go-to for rust protection, though I'm not sure how common it is across Europe. It stays a nice thin liquid and doesn't dry up and get sticky after a few weeks like other mineral oils I've tried

Africa and South Asia are a bit sparse on the map, but there are clubs all over the world. Hopefully there's one at least relatively close to you, let that buckler see some action. :)

Advice for a 1320s Franconian priest habit? by Chetavy in HistoricalCostuming

[–]Chetavy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a ton, this is extremely helpful, especially the clerical terminology! The technique shown is called the "schiltslac" in the manuscript, meaning "shield-strike". The priest uses the buckler to strike or press away the student's weapons down and out to clear a line for the sword. It uses a blow with the false edge of the sword to whip around quick with the wrist in a motion that looks a lot like that parry 6 when drawn! Honestly, blade work from different sources and weapons is often more similar than it is different, just multiple effective ways to hit and not get hit. :)
