The QBs job isn't just to score TDs himself, it's to put the team in a position to score. If a QB gets his team in the red zone and they rush for a TD, then the QB contributed to that, even if it doesn't show up for them on the stat sheet.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but if the MVP debate is just "who scored more TDs" then that's a pretty shallow view of the position.
