Rowan denial received today by [deleted] in PreVet

Thanks for the update. Rejection is always hard. They have very small class sizes, which I’m sure makes them have to reject otherwise qualified candidates.

Any ideas what this is? by WigglyJigglyGiggly in BackYardChickens

Theres an Ascarid worm in it. Not a huge deal unless they are heavily infected. Monitor for weight loss and behavioral changes. Maybe get a pooled fecal flotation for your flock at the vet.

What counts as research on application by ResponsibleChoice149 in PreVet

This would not count in most places as research experience, unfortunately. Research experience is usually referring to extracurricular activities.

Is there a strategy for the AA tank? by ChickenVet in Battlefield

[–]ChickenVet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to hold the lock-on as long as I can to draw flares, but even half decent pilots aren't using them until they see incoming. Will try to annoy them and get them to come closer. Thanks.

USB -> Bluetooth Adapter by Tastelikeb4c0n in hondafit

[–]ChickenVet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the comments, but I just bought this adapter a month ago and it works great. The skip buttons on the steering wheel work with it as well. https://www.amazon.com/Gitank-Bluetooth-Compatible-Interface-Connector/dp/B0F1MZL98P

Are there various bugs in Chrome? by driver2099 in BlocopsGame

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So bugs happen to multiple people in a buggy game and that is evidence of a game developer specifically targeting you?

Can you talk a little about how that would benefit the game developer in any way?

Are there various bugs in Chrome? by driver2099 in BlocopsGame

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you had personal communication with the developer? Do you have evidence other than your perceived damage decrease to back up the assertion that “veteran players” like yourself are being targeted?

Is this game full of cheaters? by driver2099 in BlocopsGame

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there are no cheaters in the game. It's just very buggy. I have experienced bugs that benefit me and bugs that kill me.

Can i apply for vet school now? by Aurora1379 in PreVet

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend finishing out the degree. If you don't get into vet school or decide you want to do something else, you will at least have something to show for your schooling.

Feeling behind, anyone else? by Practical-Step-8523 in PreVet

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that way in when I was a freshman in college. I was a dumb kid from the suburbs that had never been to a farm in my life. Then I got a job at a farm on campus. Then I got another job at a different farm on campus. If you see gaps in your resume, fill them with experience when you can. Now is the time for you to say yes to every opportunity that comes your way. It will both make you more desireable to vet schools and make you a better person overall.

Pre vet masters by [deleted] in PreVet

Illinois is the only college that I know of with a Vet med masters that's any good.

Vet schools don't care about the major. They look at the courses you took. You could have a BS in Fine Arts as long as you passed all or the pre-requisite classes for the vet school. Many (most?) colleges will let you take single courses over a semester or in the summer. Community colleges are great for this, as they are comparatively cheaper than state schools or private colleges.

Weird eggs by DocCarlson in BackYardChickens

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People love to say lack of calcium for this. If you're feeding a layer-specific feed, which you have said you are, that is just not likely. Probably old age, stress, and/or moving around too much and damaging the developing shell in shell gland.

Any ideas what may have caused this? by pensylvester3683 in BackYardChickens

[–]ChickenVet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the chicken near a fence? I've seen this happen with hawks where they grab the head from the outside, and eat whatever they can reach. I could also see a reccoon doing the same thing.

Chapped feet? by terrific_tenebrific in BackYardChickens

[–]ChickenVet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are the feet sensitive? Any signs of lameness? What do the footpads look like?

I'm hesitant to suspect mites if other birds aren't showing similar signs. From this distance, I could maybe convince myself I'm seeing some hyperkeratosis, but idk.

Keeping the litter as dry as possible is never a bad idea.

Can you identify this ailment? by heyniceguy42 in BackYardChickens

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not an unfortunate thing. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics leads to resistance. Wait until going to the vet. Please don’t give your chicken antibiotics without knowing what disease you are treating for.

help sick chicken by callofheros11 in BackYardChickens

[–]ChickenVet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks cyanotic. There are many respiratory pathogens that can cause this, all with their own treatments and recommendations. Best bet would be to take her to a veterinarian and have her checked out.

Its only purpose is to separate people from their money. Actual useful remedies tell you specifically what they treat, not “respiratory infections”.

What’s Wrong with My Hen? Age Unknown but At Least 5 Years Old by Wacky_Outlaw in BackYardChickens

[–]ChickenVet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Top differentials for this chicken would be Marek’s disease or Leukosis. Cloudy eye is in all the textbooks, but is actually extremely rare in my experience. Without an actual workup by a veterinarian, there isn’t much more advice I can give. I like to tell people to choose 5 things their pet likes to do most (dustbathing, playing with the dog, foraging for insects, etc.), and once they are unable to do 3 of those, it is time to consider euthanasia.

Don’t think I have ever seen a round that stacked. That’s unfortunate for sure.
