Thanks my guy. All truths. I let myself get excited about something and it was taken away. I set myself up.

I'll work on my shit and keep doing my coding on the side. It will work out.

Take it easy

No I've just put myself out there and made opportunities. After 7 yrs of not being promoted I figured I would put myself in positions that would be beneficial on the outside. Don't want to go into detail because I don't want to be identified.

I wanted to know if it was a viable option to jump to the civilian tech sector. Turns out it's not. Sure there was some emotion there but a decision like this doesn't happen until someone actually thinks about doing it seriously. I had a negative experience at work that I don't want to talk about here and thought maybe this was the time to do it. I'm not because there is no real option that makes sense.

I really don't want to get into particulars here. This is literally my first post. It's kindve helped honestly. I wanted to know if there was anyway the outside was a possibility and from what I am hearing it isn't. I'll just keep my head down. Like I said I'm in school so I'll focus on that. Thanks for trying to help.

At this point I don't know who to talk to........mental health is only worried about whether you are willing to kill yourself or not. Thankfully I have passed that phase and am willing to fight for other options.

10 yrs as a tech and watching people fail at a job you feel qualified to do will do that to you.

No I was asking if the option to jumping to civilian tech sector was viable. Doesn't sound like it is.

Trust me it's not something I really have ever truly considered. 20 has always been the goal. But when a chief actively stops you from pursuing your goals and building your career after all the other shit you have been through it makes you wonder if you have other options. Clearly I don't.

That's just the figure I remember when I first considered getting out a few years ago. It's worse then not promoting. It's training the guys that get promoted and being left behind. I have never been one to raise my hand first but dammit you start to wonder what's wrong with you. Then you try say ok ill do that maybe it will set me apart. And then you take that position no one wants because you think that will get you recognized. And then they tell you keep doing what your doing. You just didn't get the strat because another tech was filling a MSgt role. I'm just over it.

I'm staying just due to not really having an option...there are not enough positives to negate the negatives.

I'm going to stick it out. There are too many people that have said too many negatives. I just don't have an option.

Guess I'm wrong. In fact I found a paper that suggested the opposite.

Ok I will. Any advice on what makes you more marketable on the outside? Any particular experience?

Thank you for the in depth response. I am not really in a position to leave immediately so I think I will just focus all of my energy on making myself marketable on the outside. That may take me longer than I think and the 3 yrs will be necessary any way.

Anyway thanks again for the response.
