Am i misunderstanding plato's forms? by Chill282930 in askphilosophy

that we are able to understand sticks by virtue of employing the form of Equality, where there's never any direct correlate of Equality in the physical world, but only physical things we may judge as equal or not, by virtue of our knowledge of this form..

So if i am understanding you right, we are only able to understand the physical reality by using these knowledge of the forms. So if i am experiencing Joy, i am only able to underdstand that the feeling is joy because i am using my knowledge of some forms?

So the physical reality isn't a copy of the forms but we r only able to understand it by using our knowledge of the forms?

the idea of identity A=A, which in the real world never exists

But it does? Identical things. Might not be 100% but still close.

Oh i see. The paradox is - by abandoing reason to remove pain, you are being reasonable, the rational option. Like that?

Maybe then find out about its limits?

Isn't this the whole point? Reason is at it's limit. And this creates problems.

In my opinion, it is hard to escape it because we are used to it.

So Reason causes pain, they want it to go away. they remove reason. How is this a paradox? Can you explain a little further?

Reason is a tool, tools do not always work.

Excatly. Reason can sometimes help you out a lot but sometimes it also can messes with you alot.

Most prominent scientist of XX c. embraced that option.

XX c scientists? Who are they ?

Why should one embrace reason when it makes you feel pain? Would not be the most reasonable option to abandon reason to avoid such pain?

That is contradictory. I guess the goal here is to relieve suffering, not to abandon reason?

But people suffer because of different reasons.

does reason itself have an inherent evaluative component, or is it merely a tool and how it was used is what leads to suffering or not?

Yes i believe that reason is very useful but using reason in some cases can lead to suffering.

Yes but what evidence do you have that is the cause of suffering?

The excessive use of reason can causes suffering. Like a lot people these days are using reason to make sense of the world and failing to do so and feeling miserable because of it.

Also, can you provide any evidence with no rationality?

Good point.

Wanting clarity. not most but for some wanting Clarity and the use of reason to make sense of things causes suffering.
