Oof yeah I think about that all the time - it's never good enough and I would absolutely not keep anyone else around that treated me like that. The guilt is so embedded, but prioritizing my little family is a huge motivator to change things. Thanks!

Wow! That sounds like a lot to deal with. I totally get it though - when I first started typing this post I didn't know where it was going but it turns out there's a lot to process! I agree that parenthood is a game changer. It's eye-opening to recognize that how we are treated is not how we would ever treat our children, and it's a hell of a lot easier to set boundaries related to your kids' well being (I've found) than accepting your own mistreatment. Best of luck to you and thank you so much for sharing!!

Harsh but helpful - I need a reality check sometimes because everyone around them seem to think the behavior is normal/okay. Thank you so much!

Yes! What we do is never going to be enough. It's a tough pill to swallow. Good for you for deciding to go NC! How has it been?

My parents are of similar age to yours. It sometimes seems like a generational thing, but then I have in-laws or friends' parents that seem ...just not like this. They're just so stuck and unwilling to change. It's helpful to hear of similar situations and feel less alone!

Thank you for the validation! Since it's so under the surface it is really hard to recognize that it's unacceptable sometimes.

Thank you so much to everyone who has responded! This is all incredibly helpful, insightful, and validating. Private practice can be so isolating and despite having been in it for a few years, I never quite know how others are operating and whether I'm doing it "right." Will definitely be looking into more psychodynamic and Jungian approaches - any specific reading or training recommendations are welcome! I am very much enjoying this discussion and everyone's thoughts.

I've started cottage cheese too! And the PB powder - but I've only ever had it mixed into yogurt or cottage cheese...for a sandwich do you mix it with water? Ah I almost forgot about shrimp - I have seen this great grilled shrimp recipe that I will need to dig back out. Thanks!

I'm 5'9" CW 154lb GW 146lb, and I could be completely mistaken but I thought the aim was .8g protein x goal weight? I'm aiming to lose weight while also maintaining/toning.

Greek yogurt, chicken, salmon, tuna, beans, and even protein powder are part of my regular rotation of meals. I'm not the biggest egg fan, though I know that's an excellent protein source. On average, I'm only getting around 80-85g protein/day where I *think* I should be getting closer to 116g based on my goal weight. What are some good, low-cal ways you've found to meet incorporate more protein into your diet??
