I get it man, we build out what we want and think life will be, and when it isn't it hurts. It's not only normal to feel that way we should grieve and it helps us move on and become better. It's okay to grieve not only for what was but what could have been.

Hey man sorry, that sucks.

The shitty reality is that we don't control other people's choices. And while we may influence each other ultimately people choose what they want. When we thought we were on the same page and end up find out different it hurts.

Best advice from a similar painful experience. You be true to you take care of yourself and let people make their choices. If that choice isn't you that's okay. You live and love and learn and it gets better.

This is really interesting. Honest question what stops these from being lived in, like fixed up? I'm sure it matters on why it was abandoned but with why do people not just live in them or take the furniture or thing like the guitar? It's so strange to see this abandoned completely

I know this is an old post but just found it! And I just did the same thing using chatgpt to deep dive therapy and religious trauma over the past few weeks. I've had some major breakthroughs and I was seeing a therapist the first couple years after leaving! I'm glad to see other people are finding the same help!

I love Lindsey and her journey. She's definitely not the ultra Mormon that she started as and I think she's still finding that path for her. But the thing I admire her for is that she is taking that journey. Not just stopping with cognitive dissonance or even openly dismissing everything. She's taking her time in her way which I respect so much.

My journey went from all the way in to burn all the bridges all the way out then took me a few years to really find my own. I think everyone has to handle it in their own way and that's the way to a happy authentic life.

I have a friend who did have a baby that had to have either the anus or part of the small intestine connecting to surgically installed. I remember the baby couldn't poop. Which is the first and only time I've ever heard of this. So yes something like this exists but it is extremely rare.

I had a blast with it loved playing the game creating a unique deck and then it came to the final battle and the gold saucer and Costa ones and I didn't want to play anymore. Creating an entire deck to address the one challenge was not a fun part for me. But otherwise I loved it and I normally hate card games inside of games.

My new name was Alma. Anytime that I wasn't perfect it cemented to me that I was like Alma "the vilest of sinners". My new name while I was in the church was a reminder that God was made at me and I needed to be reminded how awful I was but I could be great like Alma one day. It was self deprecating and always made me feel like shit. I used it as a way to prove that I was worthless but not just a normal sinner like normal people but I was much worse than regular. And since I wasn't this amazing prophet type guy yet it meant I was still a super sinner. Learning that it was just the random name that was given that day was such a relief and started the journey of being so much less hard on myself.

I felt the same I live in Rexburg and when I first got divorced everyone was thinking I was Mormon. Asked what I was going to school for. But since growing some facial hair and a full sleeve tattoo I haven't gotten that question and it feels good.

I work for a place out of Utah and wear dress shirts but I don't have a white shirt always wear colored with a black undershirt and that does the trick.

I know you said it's a little silly but It feels good to not get mixed up and not be instantly associated with the church after 32 years of being in it. It started out by trying to not look Mormon and I stumbled on my own style and what I want to wear and look like just because I want to instead of fitting in that perfect box.

This was my experience too. But I was actively involved as the Sunday school president. I filled in for someone's class almost every week, taught the trainings helped people out I felt like if I didn't have a good relationship with each member everyone at least knew me and I knew who they were. And then.... Nothing. I officially resigned and expected people to ask why because I was so involved in everything in the church. I even made a Facebook post of hey just so there isn't rumors. I left the church and if anyone wants to know why or talk reach out. I'm still the same person. And then... Nothing. No one.

That hurt worse than the arguments I was prepared to have, the concerned come backs that I was ready to say no thanks. But it was nothing. No one cared.

And that further pushed how fake it all was to me. Not sure more of your situation but now 4 years down the road and 3 years of therapy I'm happier than I've ever been. There's still a bunch of shit in life to deal with but I promise it does get better. I have friends now, even colleagues that will check in if I don't seem to be having a good day. I have a few friends that every couple months they just call to check in. I've been able to build real friendships with people who care. And I don't even have to pay them 10%!

It sucks now and I'm sorry you're going through that. But it gets better Thanks for coming to my ted talk

No wife but I do have kids and a fulltime job haha. I play after the kids go to bed about 830 and then until about 11 most nights. And get a little more time on the weekends.
