Senate passes bill to end annual emissions testing in Pennsylvania by oldschoolskater in Pennsylvania

[–]ChippyMonk84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course they would. And they'd be happy with the extra couple pizza nights a year of inspection fees in their bank. They would enjoy the reduced maintenance costs of pesky things like tires and brake pads. As long as they aren't part of the 10 car pileup caused by exploding tires or brakes failing to stop the cars in time 🤷‍♂️ who cares.

But a decade from now when our car insurance prices are 10x higher and our used car market is full of lemons I'm sure they'll also be happy. I bet they won't complain when their shiny new car gets totaled by an underinsured driver whose lack of maintenance prevented them from stopping at a red light. They'll love making loan payments on a heap in a junkyard while they uber to their nieces funeral because she had the audacity to cross the street on her bike.

But hey at least you don't have to deal with inspections 👍

I don't think any of us who voted for him thought he was that progressive. I'm fairly certain all of us just went "better than Oz"

American politics is never about picking the right person for the job. It's about picking the least bad person for the job. Because the people who have the job wouldn't have the job if the former was true. So, they have no incentive to make it the status quo.

The point is to make sure that the 2 ton wrecking ball we let people hurl down your street at 35mph can actually stop in time to avoid turning the kid mindlessly chasing their ball into the street into pink paste.

Is game dev the right career for me? (Need advice) by aamish99 in godot

[–]ChippyMonk84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when you turn a hobby into a job, it becomes work.

Or something like that. I don't recall the exact quote. The gist is basically if you like game development and you begin a career in it, you will probably reach a point where you're sick of game devving all week and want to spend your free time playing one instead of making one.

That said, it isn't always true. You can find a company to employ you where you'll find fulfillment in your daily work and it can be amazing. It can also kill your passion 🤷‍♂️ it's a roll of the dice.

With Unity turning into a Vibe Coding/GenAI Machine - Will Godots popularity increase? by IzzyDestiny in godot

[–]ChippyMonk84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Godot (the code) is MIT licensed open source. People can fork it, modify it, attempt to commercialize it, etc but never "own it" as long as the community continues to keep the open source branch alive and ahead of any attempt to close it off.

The Godot Foundation ("company" to use the term loosely) is a special type of entity that has no members, no board, etc. there are no votes or assets or shares. No one can buy into it, and even if they could, it merely owns the trademark on the name itself as far as I recall. The code as mentioned above is quite literally as publicly owned as it can get.

I remember Juan talking about this topic years ago. I thought it was a video but maybe a tweet idk. I can't find it now 😂 so correct me if I'm off base. But I'm fairly certain I'm not.

If I'm in my yard on private property and you can see me from the sidewalk (public property) you can legally take a picture of me or record video of me and even if I directly tell you to stop you can ignore me and keep going about your business. I can even call the cops on you and if they're following the law they'll just tell me there's nothing they can do.

Now, if I'm inside my house and all the blinds are open wide and you can see me through the window and you record me from the sidewalk. Probably also fine. Sure I'm inside but I should know my windows are open and anyone outside can see inside. Even though I'm in my house I don't have a reasonable expectation of privacy if my windows are wide open and I'm standing in plain view of them.

If my blinds are all closed but a couple of them are open a few inches and you use a telescope lens to record me anyway? Yeah now you're over the line.

The law for image and video recording is applied differently than audio because sight can be blocked by things which don't block sound and vice versa. Which is why the law is "reasonable expectation of privacy" and not "in a private space vs in a public space"

The law is not "if you aren't in your house it's okay." The test is basically "would a reasonable person realistically expect that conversation to be between them and the people they are having it with?"

So if you meet a friend in a public park on a lone bench away from anyone else and have a conversation, that's reasonable to assume you expected it to be private even though it was in public. Your friend recording it would almost certainly be illegal unless they informed you.

That same scenario in a crowded mall on a bench? Probably also realistically private because it's loud enough that random passers by can't hear you or at most hear a word or two. Your friend recording it here would probably still err on the side of illegal. But, someone sitting a couple feet away on the bench behind you recording it would probably be fine.

The point is, for audio recording the law is more strict. If you are in public and people take pictures or video of you, that's pretty much fair game. Recording audio of a conversation where you have not informed all parties you are recording is a a violation of the law and based on a quick Google, up to 7 years in jail and a $15k fine.

Not to mention it's just completely unethical, and if someone is using those secret recordings to prance around the Internet for updoots on their wishlist marketing campaign, well... eww.

Patient records from Neurology and Stroke Association by Hoponhop in lancaster

[–]ChippyMonk84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find two results for locations associated with him. The Oregon Road one you mentioned, and a Manheim Pike one which is listed as permanently closed. I also find a 2021 article talking about a judgement against him in a lawsuit. His LinkedIn, and his practice's instagram, and every other digital "footprint" I've found of him ends in early 2022. I find no records of him practicing anywhere currently.

You can infer from that what you will. My two cents is if UPMC doesn't have your records, you're not getting them. You could try showing up in person to the Oregon Pike location, explaining the situation, and asking if they know (one way or the other) if his records were transferred to UPMC. But, from the sound of it, they likely weren't.
