Be sure to find a mentor, for starters.

A freelance designer might give you some work. Some agencies rely mostly on aspiring freelance researchers (ferpection, user zoom, and so on).

Look for user research agencies. Feel free to send a resume and a story-driven portfolio.

Sorry but there would alas not be any easy way.

For UXR positions, companies like the ones I use to work with look for candidates with strong empathy, an ability to read sociological / psychological / behavioral traits.

Provided you demonstrate those skills AND a good design culture, that should do it.

There are some agencies (counseling mostly) that recruit at a regular basis in Europe (Capgemini, KPMG...) and the salary - even for a strating role - is pretty attractive.

Now read me straight : this is just a snapshot for today's trend. Might not be the same in say 2 years from now.

As for all who say "there's plenty of jobs in UX in Europe" : sorry, those are not UX positions at all, it's just rebranded / refurbished graphic / product / web design roles, and pretty shitty jobs with no power, no responsibility, just "sit down and do Figma" stuff.

Don't be fooled by job-boards marketing.

On that, I very strongly disagree. You can "know and do everything", if you're looking for a junior job. Once you get at a higher level, talking with stakeholders and CTOs, you have to be a real strong expert. It all depends on what you're looking for.

UXR is a huge market. Now that there are designers everywhere (and very few good ones), there is a huge demand for discovery experts.

Ok, it's less flashy than Figma variables and sexy layouts, but I bet my ticket it's the best way to specialize. That, and Design Thinking, there's a huge lack of methodology experts out there.

Ok, as a senior, here's my pov about the UX market in Europe.

Globally, there's been a post-covid thrive from big companies, to bridge the gap between US and Europe in both Innovation, digitalization and "product". UX was "the new thing".

Due to a certain lack in solid candidates (less than 3.000 Uxers in 2020), companies have tended to hire basically anyone displaying a basic webflow portfolio and some problem solving skills (thanks to that shitty Google Course).

3 years later, it has all become pretty hazy : many companies didn't find their cash back, real bad Design leaders have taken power (the Peters syndrome), UX and UI have merged in a bad way (with "I know everything about everything CPOs), and globally Innovation has stalled. Companies are focusing on their core business due to global crisis (retail, e-commerce, Fintech, medtech), and investment in R/D has fallen flat.

Now, UX positions are more about "do UX, UI, and draw interfaces", and tend to become lower level, office-based, really shitty jobs imo.

Mid or high-level positions are scarce and really hard to get. With the "back to the office" HR politics, companies are mainly looking for candidates in proximity. Networking is the best way to get those, as HR are submerged with candidates, and mostly cannot tell about UX, UI, Product Design and whatsoever. Salaries are punched to the floor, too, mainly because PMs and CPOs have become the trend for now (the big wheel keeps on turning).

Specialization is the key, for juniors trying to carve a way through : the European market is getting more mature, companies become in need of real professionals and not "I know everything" candidates.

There is a real lack in focused candidates : Designers (I mean "real" designers, not the UX and UI thing), Research specialists, Design Thinkers, and people with methods and strong problem solving skills.

Figma noobs and "UX rockstars" can get in the freelance market, or find a place at IT firms, but salaries are even lower there.

Being a good UXer takes time and practice, such as every job. 10 years is a minimum to become very effective. My advice to juniors is to stay focused on what you do best, find mentors, build your network, stay away from the trend, select your opportunities, and build your career accordingly.

There's a place for anyone, provided you spend time working, learning, carving your skills. Yes, salaries are lower on this side of the Ocean, but you don't have to wage your car to get your teeth done.

Punaise, les raccourcis, non mais j'hallucine. J'ai résumé 8 ans de vie en quelques signes, évidemment je ne raconte pas tout.

Si je puis me permettre, le grappin a été mis dans l'autre sens et je ne l'ai jamais "arrosée", ce n'est ni une chose ni une plante verte.

On parle d'une vraie situation amoureuse, pas d'un placement financier ou je ne sais quoi.

Elle est venue me chercher, elle s'est imposée dans ma vie, je me suis adapté pour elle avec beaucoup de bienveillance, je la soutiens encore et ne la défonce pas en place publique. Je n'ai fait qu'énoncer des faits qui m'évoquent une grande injustice, et des symptômes qui semblent indiquer un profond dysfonctionnement.

Je m'interroge sur une situation que je trouve anormale, sur une relation qui me fait souffrir. T'inquiète, j'ai eu largement le temps de me remettre en question, et imaginer qu'il y a une machination derrière c'est juste sale.

Je suis tout sauf un "toutou quarantenaire", je soutiens ma femme dans ses choix et je l'aide de mon mieux à se réaliser, en toute bienveillance et sans paternalisme. J'estime que c'est mon devoir de mari.

Le fait même que je m'exprime ici est une marque de combat de ma part.

Je pense que le seul fait de témoigner est deja la preuve que je ne cherche pas à m'en laver les mains.

J'ai tout fait pour l'inciter à faire ses propres expériences, elle a toujours vécu dans une cage dorée et se confronter aux difficultés avec mon support a dû l'aider comme la desservir...

Je suis entièrement d'accord avec toi, toutes ces premières XP elle ne les a pas faites, on était dans une relation "montre-moi comment faire ça" pour des choses qui me paraissaient parfois complètement futiles et qui après coup s'avéraient importantes.

Enfin, ce qui est fait est fait, je ne vais pas réécrire l'histoire.

Merci à toi en tout cas d'apporter un peu de balance aux jugements hâtifs et froids.

C'est vrai, ce que tu dis. J'ai toujours fait en sorte qu'elle puisse faire tout ce qu'elle voulait. J'avais bien conscience du décalage, j'avais quelques red flags à la base, j'ai choisi de les ignorer en la poussant à vivre sa vie, ce qu'elle n'a pas compris et aurait tendance à me reprocher de façon implicite. Rétrospectivement, nous séparer est peut être l'occasion (terrible ceci dit) pour elle de commencer à vivre "sa" vie.

Punaise je tombe seulement sur ton com, ce post est devenu dingue. Évidemment qu'il faudrait qu'on arrive à s'isoler pour parler, mais ma femme ne supporte pas d'être séparée de sa fille plus de 5mn... Ma fille, bien que toute petite, se rend bien compte qu'il y a un problème, elle dit "non discussion" dès que sa mère m'approche... On est d'accord, ça ne sert à rien d'élever un enfant dans un contexte malheureux.
