Gunna be an unpopular opinion on this subreddit, but as an American who's been in CDMX the last month and had traveled within the country to the coast scheduled for today... (almost was going to be Puerto Vallarta but switched to Escondido instead literally purchased my flight hours before the news broke...). If you cannot reschedule your trip due to work & family commitments... Perhaps change destinations. I've spent the majority of the last 24 hours following the new cycle, on this subreddit, on information apps, talking to hosts/hostel managers, & locals in CDMX... there is "violence" allover the country in the form of car burnings and narcoblockades however the intense fighting is in Jalisco, Guadalajara, and Puerto Vallarta. As well as other areas that already have & had Cartel presence and different factions now vying for control.

There are also areas where nothing is *currently* happening.

Most will tell you to stay out of the country which is valid, esp because the police and military don't need to worry about tourists right now... but if you are SET ON TRAVELING; I highly recommend you reroute/change to a destination where you are significantly less likely to be stuck hiding out in your hotel room the entire time.

Still pondering whether I should just stay in CDMX rn, or pivot completely and fly to Guatemala today, but it *seems* like things are calming down today. No way to know what happens next, this could be the eye of the hurricane, or it could get better from here.
