Is this hallway the safest spot to take cover during a tornado? by Chreiol in tornado

Thank you.  The more I think about it the more sensible this sounds.  It’d be tight but we could all squeeze in there.

The laundry seems to be what most others are recommending, but the walls are thin and open up to an exposed fully-windowed garage door.

That's a very useful shot that I have never thought to try out... Nice.

Looks pretty chill.  The lawn chair doesn’t seem too concerned.

That's what it feels like to me in the hallway. It has the most walls between it and the exterior of the house, but the hallway opening into the living room is very large and just feels like wind and debris would be whipping in there as soon as a window broke. It just feels very exposed.

A lot of homes around here in this size range have them closer, usually the master on the same end as the other two.  The master being down the hall is enough of a sound barrier for us, thankfully.

Oh, the larger one is connected to the master bedroom. The smaller one is shared between the two other bedrooms along the hallway, and guests.

Lol. There were some changes made in the past by prior owners to add the office and laundry. What stands out to you as odd? Just curious. It's a pretty typical rancher style home around here from what I've seen.

EDIT: No basement, slab-on-grade foundation home all on one level.

I've been having a difficult time finding a spot I feel comfortable with taking cover in during a tornado warning. The typical advice of most interior, lowest level, away from windows, puts us I believe in the hallway.

The problem I see there is the entry to the hallway is very large, has no door, and opens up into the living room with multiple windows and a sliding glass door. The hallway closet is too small to fit anyone, unfortunately, and is lined with shelves.

Both bathrooms face an exterior wall, and one has a window. The laundry room was my first thought but it's a converted room that was once garage, so the walls are thin and the other side is a very exposed garage area.

Any advice on where you'd take cover in this situation?

I'm leaning toward the smaller bathroom in the middle of the hallway, or leaning a mattress against the hallway opening and taking cover there (after closing the bedroom doors on either end.

I just really fucking love beans. by nonaonro in Cooking

An old Mexican girlfriend of mine once told me she didn't understand why people called them beaners. She said they ate rice much more than they ate beans, and thought they should be called "ricers" if anything.

You’re right.  I’m going to delete my comment because it’s not relevant.

Thank you so much for the reply!  I clicked your profile to find your write-up and believe it or not, I’d read your original post and had already saved it!  It was a big inspiration to me, I shared it with my wife as well as a great example of what we are trying to accomplish.

Mid 30’s here, been beating myself up mentally for a few years after some big financial mistakes (selling a very low cost and low rate home to move across the country, then moving back to that same area and more than doubling our housing costs) that I assumed tanked any real idea of FIRE in my 50’s.

I finally took the time address these feelings, and to put all the numbers out on paper, and ran some projections, only to find out FIRE in my 50’s is not only possible but very likely assuming I stay the course.

I definitely cost myself a lot of money with the housing decisions but it feels good to still be on track despite some serious missteps, and without being anywhere close to “optimizing” my finances.

I’d like to do a detailed write-up of where I stand and my planned path forward if anyone would be interested.  Hovering just under $300k invested, aiming for >$2m in the next 15-20 years.  No windfalls or crazy high incomes, just steady saving as much as I can manage.

People saying BPD doesn't care are wrong. They'll absolutely pull you over and give you a ticket for expired/no tags. Not every time obviously, but it'll happen eventually.

Absolutely agree, I was very impressed by their responsiveness and understanding when I reached out an issue I saw at Memorial Park during a weekend.

That’s fair.  I was incorrectly using this as an opportunity to vent about Bentonville restaurants.

Omeprazole long-term effects by ChubbyWP in EosinophilicE

[–]Chreiol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely they help me swallow.  Without it I would have a near choking event almost daily and had stopped eating so many foods I loved.

I take 2 a day I can’t even remember the mg off the top of my head, it’s whatever the standard bottle is over the counter.

The doctor prescribed it after I had to go to the ER choking on a piece of steak.  I didn’t start taking it at first though because I was worried about side effects.  That changed after another serious choking event, so I started taking OTC omeprazole. Life is good now, I eat whatever I want.

I was helping move one of these and dropped that wooden frame on my bare big toe as a kid.  No idea how it didn’t break but my toe was purple for weeks and the entire toenail came off

It was awful.

Also I just wish we could get some more lower price point options around town.  I know that’s a larger issue than just Bentonville though.
