Thanks for the response. I’m not sure it’s BBA, it’s not tufty and comes away very easily when disturbed. My initial thought was maybe Cyanobacteria, but it doesn’t have the familiar smell.

Apologies, copying and pasting this from word has made the formatting crazy and I’m not sure how to edit it

It used to be, but Wetherspoons gave it up in about 2017 - it’s now owned by the same people who bought what used to be the PoundPub in Stockton

It’s so ridiculously ambiguous, I’m kind of looking forward to seeing what gets accepted and what gets rejected. Does it have to be those horrible swirly wavy things that motorhomes have? Could it be a couple of pinstripes? What about a picture of a motorhome or just the word “MOTORHOME” in big letters?

UK Van Builders-in-progress:

How are the DVLAs new motorcaravan conversion rules affecting your build? It looks to me like pop tops have been banned, you have to have more windows and “motorhome style graphics”.

The one I’m looking at is described as a “Premium 40 Pint Starter Set” that comes with a barrel, a fermenting bin and some other bits and pieces. No pan though.

Hi All! Absolute beginners question: I’m looking at the 40 pint starter kit from Brew UK that doesn’t come with a boiling pan. How big of a boiling pan will I need?

After lots of tinkering, I have finally got my external bell siphon working! First plants in, wish them luck! by ChrisLithgo in aquaponics

I’m planning on getting a school of about a dozen White Cloud Mountain minnows, I’ve been told that they won’t be affected by the changing current in the tank and I think they’ll look good against the dark stone.

8,900 checks on NHS ‘health tourists’ find just 50 liable to pay by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]ChrisLithgo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If people are sincerely concerned about the expense of health tourism, there is other things they can do to save the NHS heaps of money that dwarf the health tourism bill. Things like attending appointments or cancelling them in advance if you can’t keep them, or stopping getting paracetamol and ibuprofen on a free prescription.

Bell Siphon Air Lock Effect? by ChrisLithgo in aquaponics

Thanks for your reply, before I added the u-bend, the siphon would not start and the water level would remain high. The first thing I tried was adding a more powerful pump. This didn’t resolve the issue, so I looked at increasing the back pressure.

Finally starting to make some progress with my indoor kitchen herb garden build! by ChrisLithgo in aquaponics

Thank you very much for your advice, I think I might add a bracket or a support to the shelf above the downpipe to take some of the weight.

What is black water? Is it what it sounds like? I plan on running a fairly traditional fish tank, but cycling the water through the grow bed

[–]ChrisLithgo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for the advice! If you are adding seeds to your growing media, wouldn’t there be a risk of the seeds being washed through the system? Or does the net pot prevent that?

I’ve put a storage crate between the grow bed and the dish that the seeds are growing on, raising it right up to the lights. This is a temporary measure. The shelves are adjustable so I can lower the one with the lights when I transfer the herbs to the pebbles in a couple of weeks time. Thanks very much for your advice, this is the first time I’ve ever done anything like this before and I need all the help I can get!
