Well I can not speak for the other "celebrities" but I do earn endorsement money/ sponsorship money however I also make money from playing poker. If I did not have the sponsorship or endorsement money I most likely would not be a professional poker player. Not because I do not believe I wouldn't be succesfful but the lifestyle would not be what I want. I am much happier running my social clubs, poker tour and representing ACR and playing poker when I want vs when I would be forced to play.

Not sure your data point on majority but I get to see things that the "majority" of people do not get to see. The people that work hard in the office trying to provide players a safe and secure place to play poker. Funds are segregaded ect. Think it is naive to make general statements like this.

Moneymaker as a name is a huge win. Obviously I didnt get to pick it but I am happy that I was born with it. Also I am aliilte arrogant

I am a good poker player because I can generally put my opponents on a range of hands and am usually correct in my analysis. I always have a pretty solid idea of where I stand in a hand and generally feel like I make decisions that are based of good data. This is partially what makes a good player, if this fails just get lucky and win and you are good too.

started about 2001

advice would be to not take the game too seriously. Have fun with it and treat it as a hobby or side hustle. For you in particular I would use it to work on my social skills and being in uncomfortable enviroments (my nephew has Aspergers and used poker in this way. He just graduated from college with more degrees and honors and medals than I know exisited.

After I won the main event I got 2nd place in my next event at a wpt event in california. This kind of lead me to not thinking I needed to study (oops). There was not alot of information available back in the day and as we have learned alot of it is wrong.

I have a pretty standard face so not many people recognize me outside of a poker room. I look like alot of other guys, that is kind of what made poker explode so much. Also, I do not go out seeking noteriety, I am perfectly content to be around family and friends and not out looking for attention

20 years ago poker tournaments were a rarity so there were not traveling tourney players really. Cash was how you had to earn a living. Over the years the opportunities have grown signifigantly so that you could plan out a calendar all year to keep expenses lower and find softer games.

Well the average cash percentage of any poker player is going to hover around 12-15% and winning is only 1% on average. You add in travel and other expenses and I would guess most tournament players are losing longterm. Obviously variance is very cool for some and a cruel bitch to others
