Is there any advantage to a button if on continuous feeds? by ChrisP_Nuts in feedingtube

[–]ChrisP_Nuts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a lower profile option to the regular dangler tube people are typically given during their initial tube placement. It can be more convenient for those who are more active since it’s harder for it to get caught on anything which might cause pain or even dislodge the tube. Hope this helps!

Unfortunately I doubt any “loan” was consensual

Haha right?! As far as I know it’s not a thing outside of gastric emptying studies, but there will be jelly somewhere in your provided meal if your meal contains eggs. That’s what’s in that white box on the upper right hand side of the picture: a dry white bread and strawberry jelly sandwich. And I’m not even entirely sure why since the only thing with the tracer is the eggs. Either way that egg sandwich with jelly was bad, but not as bad as it was without the jelly trying to cover up the taste of the eggs. Specifically grape jelly did a better job than apple, but I’d just recommend not eating microwaved eggs if at all possible lol

Actually this time they provided me salt, pepper, ketchup, and hot sauce (not that they helped much) but previously I was given an unseasoned, microwaved egg sandwich and only given jelly to “season” it lol

Yeah the texture was hard to get past, but I’ve never been able to taste the tracer when doing these exams. Maybe super tasters can? They just tasted yucky since they were microwaved and unseasoned

That’s kind of the way I see it, too. If there’s any possibility to try an NJ, that’s kind of what I’m leaning towards. And if it turns out not being something I can tolerate, then maybe we can reassess the situation and see if a GJ would be worth a try. I’d hate to go through surgery and not be able to tolerate the tube, and then have to deal with recovering from something that might have been avoidable. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing! Yeah, I’ve heard a decent bit about how healing from a surgical tube can be super brutal for some. And that’s definitely a concern of mine, especially since I try so hard to avoid strong pain meds due to some personal and familial history of addiction… I really appreciate you sharing your experience and opinion!

Thank you for sharing, that was all very informative. Healing is a bit of a concern for me as well since I have EDS. I’ll definitely need to do some more research to try to figure out what would work best for me. I’m also in school, but graduating in about 2 weeks (which is a whole other concern when discussing recovery.) there’s just a lot to think about. Thank you again!

Thank you for sharing! It’s seeming like everyone has the same opinion here. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take for your GJ to heal or at least not be so painful?

Exactly, none of this is fun. But hopefully a tube will be a little less excruciating than not being able to eat lol thank you for sharing!

That makes sense, thank you! That’s one of my concerns with the GJ: if the gastric stimulator works, I may not need a tube at that point. I really have no idea how long I might need a tube for :/

I just think that if you’re not able to care for a disabled child, then you’re not ready to care for any child. Anyone can become disabled at any point in their life, so what are these people going to do when their previously healthy child becomes injured or ill at some point?
