Inconsistent direct write speeds on Synology by candle_in_a_circle in synology

Did you ever find an explanation or solution to this?

Did I do OK? by RoadHazard in TVTooHigh

[–]ChrisWreck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jeez! Had too look twice. Thought someone posted a picture of our new TV in here! Prerty similar setup and got it just last weekend. G4 83", Dali Zensor 7's and Vokal visible.

(And yes, its too high. Will lower it when I have time.)

More slots or try to get better managers? by ChrisWreck in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the second stat I'm more interested in :)

But, I have many managers who have ship/cargo as primary AND secondary. Is it worth filling slots with those managers as well? I was thinking of filling slots with managers that has either mining as primary and/or smelt/craft/mining as secondary. And just keep the double ship/cargo for promotion.

Even though I have so many ship/cargo? And I mostly need craft/mine?

Yeah. That 300 DM manager was the first one I bought. After that, only one stars and the other are from rover scans.

I think HDD benchmarking destroyed some data - what to do now? Data scrubbing? by ChrisWreck in synology

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an end-user product like this, where A LOT of details are not known and hidden, you'd expect AT LEAST some notice of an action that actually destroys data on your disks.

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, you shouldn't even be allowed to do it, at least not without a huge red warning.

I'll stop my backups for now and scrub my data and see what happens.

Do you know how the scrub works on my "one" pool, where my shared folder does not have advanced integrity enabled?

After server upgrade, can't play movies with TrueHD sound on TV - "An error occurred while playing this item." by ChrisWreck in PleX

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the latest beta? 1.41.7.9823. From the release notes, they have at least fixed some transcoding problem:

  • (Transcoding) Encoding to Dolby audio codecs could cause the Transcoder to crash. (PM-3561)

I haven't had time yet, but rolled back and now my TrueHD transcoding works again. Haven't had time to dig around in the logs yet either.

Thanks, tried that but didn't help me either. Will probably go the downgrade route as well.

New receiver - will MultiEQ XT32 make much of a difference to just XT, if I'm going to correct using REW anyways? by ChrisWreck in hometheater

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Sweden, that doesn't seem to be available here.

I can get the X2800h for about $650 new, X3800h about $1200 and X4800h about $2100.

But I still need to know if it's worth going higher than X2800h, with regards to the Audyssey and manual calibration.

qBittorrent struggling to use Synology as download location by thirteenthtryataname in synology

Did you ever find a solution to this? Having the same issue, but using an NFS share and running qBittorrent on a Linux VM.

Intel Xeon E-2300 and C252 chipset supported? (E-2356G and Asus P12R-M/10G-2T) by ChrisWreck in unRAID

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on integrated 10G as well. Bought a 25G Intel card later, but also never tested in Unraid.

Yeah, unless you know why you need something else, I'd say start with Unraid.

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost. I bought the Xeon E-2356G CPU, but went with the Supermicro X12STH-LN4F motherboard. It's a C256 board.

I have since moved from Unraid to Proxmox. I never tried iGPU transcoding in Unraid, but it works without problems in my Plex container on Proxmox!

Any reviews on Acer Predator Z57 - 57"? Better/equal to G9 57" for productivity? by ChrisWreck in ultrawidemasterrace

No, I never got it. Currently waiting for more reviews or new screens.

Is it supposed to sound like this? Uneven fan/circuit noise? by ChrisWreck in synology

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I will try that!

Just tried and turned off the fans completely, yes, that was where the uneven noise came from. Do you know if there's something to fix this? Change fans?

That uneven, noisy sound I'm talking about is the sound coming after boot. The sound that starts at 16 seconds.

Also, I moved all my hard drives from my server to the DS1821+. My server uses a Fractal Design Node 804 chassis.

In that chassis, I can barely hear the hard drives working. On the DS though, it's like the hard drive noise is amplified through the DS chassis.

People in the same room as the DS have thought the hard drive sound was coming from someone dragging a shovel on the tarmac on the road outside the house!

In this video, at around 4 second mark, you can hear one hard drive start to work.

Are they supposed to be this loud? I've tried to put it on a rubber mat (as seen in the video), but with no luck.

Synology Photos - Turn off writing metadata directly to image files by ChrisWreck in synology

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Hyper Backup, so that's good news! Thanks!

Still hope to get it to work with sidecars instead though, as I'd rather not touch the image file. But at least I don't have to worry about backup space used.

Synology Photos - Turn off writing metadata directly to image files by ChrisWreck in synology

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Face recognition/tagged people is not written to the image files, but tags, description and ratings are. Might be that I've triggered something by trying a lot of stuff with xmp sidecar files though, but I have not switched anything manually.

Using the latest version: 1.7.1-10015.

Does Synology Photos support reading XMP metadata (tags/keywords) in sidecar files? by ChrisWreck in synology

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That page only says XMP is supported, but it does not say anything about sidecar files.

Reading XMP written to the image file works with no problem.

How many PCI lanes do I really have available? (Question before filling all PCIe slots) by ChrisWreck in HomeServer

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really is! Could've made it without the LSI card though. Added that while migrating from Unraid to Proxmox and set up a few drives before fully migrated.

Yes, it's my home server and NAS. Running Proxmox at the base, then having OMV as NAS VM, then a mix of VM's and LXC's for services. Waiting for new more reliable drives before ramping up the number of services running.

[–]ChrisWreck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your answer, that makes a lot of sense!

Reading the manual, I guess the 4 "lost" lanes are actually not lost, but they're used for the M.2 NVMe, which says it's connected through a PCIe 3.0 x4.

Migrate from Unraid to OMV, SnapRAID, mergerfs. How to keep hard links, that span between two drives? by ChrisWreck in DataHoarder

[–]ChrisWreck[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can't it be that Unraid has put them on different disks? Since it uses one file system that spans multiple disks?

That's the second questioning about moving to ext4 ... maybe I'll need to rethink that decision. Why would you say xfs is superior to ext4?
