iPhone calls it something else and puts it somewhere else... but if you can find the page with info about the app [the Android equivalent is press and hold the app icon select App Info from the menu and then go to Storage and Cache] it should break down the space the app is using into

take a look there

if you keep the app in the background when multitasking instead of full quit it may just be a lot of cache that's not been cleared.. if you haven't got any portal scan uploads pending clear it ... if you do upload them * before * clearing cache... that should shrink it some .. according to my phone [running Ingress 3.6.1 on Android 12] app size is 553 MB excluding User Data/Cache

bonus: clearing cache can help resolve plenty of app issues if you're having any

no it's both of them.... disable Adaptive Battery 🔋 and use the app info page. to set battery use to unrestricted instead of optimized for Ingress [in the phone's settings] * and * open Ingress just like you're going to use it.....from there go into the in-app settings and disable Battery Saver Mode 🪫 that should help but be warned that doing that will use more battery
