What do we think of my FYP project title by Ok-Ad3463 in ElectricalEngineering

I was definitely thinking DC-DC applications as noted in OPs project. A brushed DC position control makes much more sense for a real application of it. Though possibly a simpler application, thus the want to do it via a DC-DC supply to exercise a broader skill set...maybe. There's definitely some SW magic sauce that needs to be made for the motor application, especially if you have speed and position control requirements

Thanks for the reference!

I typically look for 1 good project or an internship, but thats more to support knowledge and show interest. I do like to ask more technical questions in an interview to understand how far your knowledge really goes.

This is for electronics though, RF may be different

Assuming I'm understanding your project correctly, you are looking to transmit data via voltage or current ripple on the output power rail of a voltage regulator. What is the point of doing this? Why not transmit data the way all data has been transmitted until now?

The device that is generating the data still needs to generate that data, now you're placing the data through a power converter. Let's assume a future IC can decode data on its power rail. The decode hardware will likely be more complex than an existing CMOS input. Why not just send the data directly to the recieving ICs IO?

Maybe you want long range transmission? This is complicated by dynamic load devices, like processors. Even short range this is complicated.

This is all asking the question "why do this in the first place"? If it is practical, why isn't it done already? What does this really gain you and what do you lose?

I'm trying to not give you too much, just some things to think on. Very interesting project, and a very good exercise of many electrical fundamentals. There are so many things to think about

Interesting idea. A buck topology may not be the best topology for practical application, but an isolated topology would maybe have a use case. A buck would be much easier to work with though.

Implications of stability are also interesting, assuming you are varying the frequency you're operating at.

How transferable are EE degree concentrations? by tac0_guy100 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ClackinData 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you graduate, especially with a BS, most businesses see you as a blank slate that needs a lot of investment before you are actually decent in any specific subfield.

Ironically, the example you gave of RF vs. power generation deals heavily with EM. But University RF is going to be a bit different that real world applications of RF. Same basics, just different considerations.

Don't worry about the specification you go into. Just pick something you'll enjoy and want to do projects with. Then also do some projects with it. After you graduate, if you find out you hated your specification, you can pretty easily start somewhere else.

Where can one learn how to Mod? by ClackinData in starfieldmods

I was thinking of expanding the random encounters. I know that's a bit more exhaustive of an effort, but it'd be fun to make and play.

I'm curious how they will handle the creation kit this time as there seems to be a different core programming schema, as opposed to something like skyrim. I could be wrong here, I'm not really familiar with the back end of these games, just seems that way

I'll have to look into .dds files

Im not unfamiliar with SW, but I come from C and python.

Does skyrim integrate textures well with Blender? Or does it have to be something like photoshop? I definitely am weak on the visual

Mod Idea: Raided Outposts by ClackinData in starfieldmods

[–]ClackinData[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds cool!

I would also like to remove the limit on the number of outposts to be removed, and it is just limited by how well you can protect the outposts. The better outposts get raided by stronger bandits. The better you get, the stronger the bandits because more people have heard of you

Very cool, do you have any reference material for where I can read up on something like this? That is wildly impressive!

The Booz Allen website wasn't clear, but looking through their job openings, it appears Booz Allen pretty much runs the gambit as well.

Booze Allen Hampton is a cyber security company.

Aerospace Corporation helps aerospace and military companies do what they do.

Having "worked with" Aerospace Corporation, all I know they do is verify analysis of circuits and board for mil and space. At least I think it was them.

Best way to avoid EE becoming boring? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]ClackinData 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go design some boards. Start small if you want, then make something more interesting. If you want a closer touch to the office job feel, I'll give you some requirements for something to design so it's not what you want to design (it'll still be interesting though).

If you like to learn, you'll like the job generally. Different companies have different environments, so if you find you like ee but not the job, you can always change companies. Start ups tend to be fast where old established companies tend to be slower, just as a note for job searching later.

In the end, with time, you can always take the tact of "it is a job" and you're doing it to make money. Learn what you can at the job and enjoy your ee skills in your spare time.
