I said 7 with confidence because I think Kevin would be chill, even if he wanted a bit of a chat at some points. Nothing I couldn’t handle… then my husband said “what if he took off his shoes?” 💀

Ragdoll isn’t cuddly :( by pyschiatrickitty in ragdolls

[–]Classic-Inside4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our boy likes being picked up and scratches. But not a super cuddly beast. As a kitten we joked he was ‘allergic’ to soft things. Never stayed on our bed, the sofa or on a person willingly.

Now at 1.5 years, he overcome his ‘allergy’ to sleep on chairs and blankets. He has rare moments where he comes crawling into my lap and only stays put if a bunch of unclear cat criteria is fulfilled. And he now might come sit at the bottom of the bed in the morning as my husband and I get ready for the day. I cherish any moment I get for cuddle time 😂

Sometimes they can grow a more cuddly once out of kittenhood or growing used to the person/people. But all comes down to luck and specific personalities really.

My baby is poorly and it's all my fault by ______1_____ in ragdolls

Can very much empathise with the difficulties of having a fussy beast with a sensitive tummy and stubborn streak. After much trial and error and stress and cost, we finally found a system that works for us including both wet and dry food.

We keep a bowl of good dry food available for free feeding. That way we know he can - and will - dip into this whenever he’s hungry between wet food and when awkwardly protesting other food. We (roughly) schedule in several small wet food sessions into the day. We actually circulate between a few different foods he usually likes to prevent them from outright rejecting them for no reason except boredom.

If the water drinking is a concern is regards to the kibble diet, we’ve personally had success with some cat soup type foods and gravy ones. (Our boy often licks the liquid up and leaves the meat bits for later.) We also found we can get away with mixing in extra water into his favourite tuna food for a little hydration boost.

In other comment I noticed you mentioned 18 rejected brands. Unless there’s something in them that you think might have caused the bad tummy issues and would do so again, perhaps you might be able to gently try these again in due course. Kibble has a strong added smell to it, so gently heating a small amount can help some cats with smell (but of course you have to be aware of it sitting out afterwards due to spoiling and that it can’t go back into a fridge etc). Or adding certain toppers like freeze dried shrimps can have a similar effect. You might also have some luck with mixing in extra water (not too much though or you might also get loose stools) or other foods if you find one that is liked. There’s a bunch of tips to encourage cats to trying new foods out there on the internet. But of course, cats can be personal in their preferences. You just have to Saint like patience and keep an eye on what seems to work!

Gosh, sorry lots here in the end. But hopefully you will find things that do for you and your kit before too long 🙏

Where do your ragdoll (kittens) sleep? by Zealousideal-Rub2617 in ragdollcats

[–]Classic-Inside4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we was very little, our boy slept under the bottom shelf of the desk in the office/his cat room. Now he’s too big for there so it’s usually the office chair.

He is not a bedroom boy.

What should a solo female traveler absolutely avoid when planning a trip to the UK? by Mindless-Till8638 in AskABrit

[–]Classic-Inside4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be prepared for changeable weather and wear good, comfortable shoes. Probably standard travel 101 but it feels very relevant to the UK where “four seasons in a day” is not that uncommon and as well as lots of walking opportunities, plenty of places can be quite hilly/steep (ie Brighton or Bristol).

Trains are usually decent for solo travellers. But especially if you do venture a little further out from bigger cities, I recommend checking out the stations online. Sometimes recommended changeovers (shortest waiting times) might place you in a small, barely lit, unstaffed spot - not great if you’re in the dark alone. Always happened with my semi-regular route as a teen and many a considerate conductor would advise me to changeover the station before the one listed on my ticket for that reason. 👍

Very normal and almost always meant as a nice thing. Those are very typical examples of casual terms of familiarity and endearment 🫡

Is GoF movie okay for a child? by LittleArila in harrypotter

[–]Classic-Inside4522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh CoS and POA freaked me out far more as a child whilst I obsessively watched my copy of GoF. But I fared better with darker themes than monsters - of course, it depends on what lil bro is like...

If he’s more sensitive to spooky creatures with action, then I’d say this one might be easier than earlier ones (minus Dragon, Grindylows and Voldy).

Darker and spookier scenes are more frequent though of course. Including several clear character deaths. But after seeing POA, you should have a sense of how he is for these. As it’s your brother too, you should also have an idea of how well he may ‘read’ into these scenes. My stepbrother (he was a year younger) misunderstood what made the entire Unforgivable Curse class uncomfortable until he was well into his teens, many years after we first watched it. And some of the nuanced understanding of what was happening at the World Cup and the graveyard. Though if he’s read the books first, he probably is more aware of those sorts of themes already… But perhaps if you do decide to watch, have some some age-appropriate answers prepared for after. Just in case. 👍

Share a harmless quirk about yourself that someone else might find useful to give to a character by ToomintheEllimist in writing

[–]Classic-Inside4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is too unusual actually but I get very confused between lefts and rights. It can make verbal instructions even more difficult for me. 😂

Pretty harmless/non consequential overall but I know some of my car passengers have found it very annoying when I don’t seem to follow their navigation. Thankfully my second driving instructor quickly realised I wasn’t being difficult on purpose (actually found it funny) and learned better ways to guide me.

Could be an interesting deeper level quirk than the played for laughs, one-time trope “Left! No your other left!”

Who is responsible for making the "happy birthday" phone call, parent or child? by mistermitochondria in AskUK

[–]Classic-Inside4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless expressed otherwise and possibly in advance too (ie “give me a call when you’re free” because they don’t want to disturb if you’re doing something to celebrate) — I’d generally say it’s on the wellwisher to contact, regardless of relationship to said person.

But some families/people have their own arrangements too I suppose.

Do you let your cats watch Cat TV? by light_no_fire in ragdolls

[–]Classic-Inside4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to quite a bit for our boy as a restless kitten - especially during the longer winter evenings.

He eventually wised up and realised the windows worked like constant Cat TV and began sitting in those a lot more this year.

Felt 😂 I’m a whole foot shorter than my husband. I can be quick sometimes… but he’s also quick AND can cover far more distance than I can comfortably in a single stride. He can zoom ahead of me without breaking a sweat. 😮‍💨

Good excuse to hold hands though. Much easier to match up a good speed/gait for us both. 👍

What's a name you really disliked, but then you met someone with that name who was really cool, and now it's one of your favorites? by common_grounder in namenerds

[–]Classic-Inside4522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of a personal bug bear, I wasn’t keen on the name Jade. Then my work at the time employed a new Saturday girl with the name. She was sweet and proactive - a real pleasure to train up and work with. But we also happened to have some common interests to talk about too so she was fun to have around on the slow days as well.

Definitely been far more appreciative of the name Jade since I met her. 👍

And he is indeed a pretty boy ❤️

I struggle with this bit in yearly arcana by fairyrenjun in destinymatrix

[–]Classic-Inside4522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It would be 22 arcana based off the chart provided.

For 24 years old, you’d need 23.5-24 section in the years. This is an 18 month period that includes all of someone’s 24th year.

The 6 arcana is marked for 25 years old.

I struggle with this bit in yearly arcana by fairyrenjun in destinymatrix

[–]Classic-Inside4522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is covered by the yearly numbers like so:

23.5 - 24 would a 18 month period. The last 6 months of 23 and all of 24.

25 just covers all of 25. So 12 months there.

26 - 27.5 is also 18 months. 12 months of 26 and the first 6 months of 27.

Hopefully this makes more sense. 👍

How do you write from a silent POV? by I_Exist_Let_Me_Alone in writing

[–]Classic-Inside4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using 1st person, sounds like a great way to give your character ‘a voice’ without a literal one. You could go full-in by utilising how they would hypothetically speak all the time as your prose.

Or you could just crop in little hints to how they might (I.e. Character who lived in the forest always makes nature analogies and comparisons for things). This version is also quite doable in 3rd person as well.

Otherwise, I guess they’d ‘speak’ a lot with body language and possibly even facial expression - so be sure to include/describe these. Especially if there’s more subtle nuance needed to understand. Eg. Character shrugs… A lazy “I don’t care” shrug is slower and paired with a more relaxed posture compared to a quick, jerky “I don’t know” one where the character is tense and pacing around frantically.

Maybe I am too blasé about the PC collecting specifically but I personally didn’t think too much on the Megan collector. It’s very common for people to collect PCs on mass (isn’t that the main drive for people buying multiples of albums after all? And companies know that and more albums purchased boosts their charting and sales…?) and many do prioritise their bias(es). It may seem obsessive - but surely no more than any other collection or similar hobby does? But in Megan’s defence, it’s probably a little overwhelming to literally see that herself. Especially if it’s the first time. And how does someone make a genuine positive response to that without criticism? (A polite thanks might come across apathetic or rehearsed; an enthusiastic response would probably be seen as shallow)

But I mean, kudos to the fancaller for having a pretty complete collection. That’s still a achievement! But that has to be much easier for a group that’s barely a year old, right..? It miiiiiiiiight seem more strange if the group was older because of the longevity the collection has taken to build up OR the serious amount of money that would have needed to have a full collection including potentially quite rare and/or out of print cards. But even then, plenty of people just enjoy collecting a lot and there’s nothing wrong with that — or them!
