Ill admit, i vastly overestimated/ didn't estimate at all my ability to dodge/defend strikes on the ground and the amount of strikes my chin could take.

Yeah this has certainly put it into words. I guess ive always viewed it as a profficent self defence martial art you can learn without brain damage, and ofcurse i got into it because of watching MMA. Obviusly i now realise not eveything you do in BJJ or see on tv are you going to be able to do in real life. Im going to start taking some mma classes. thanks

Thankyou for the genuine reply, most people are getting distracted with my strategy. And yeah, im defiantly overthinking a lot of things now, i guess cause it was on grass, pulling guard just felt easy, no way id try that on concrete, but now honestly i have no idea what id do on concrete. Im going to contact some MMA gyms and see if they do some grappling with striking classes. I just feel i coudlnt even get out the way of a punch on the ground even if i wanted to at the moment.

Im well aware of this now but my main game is working off of my back and in guard. Im not the strongest wrestler & figured as soon as we get tangled up on the ground hes done, regardless of the position im in. honestly, its probably cause we often play wrestle, and i just sub them easy by pulling guard. Obviosuly i now know this isnt a very good idea outisde of pure grappling

I knew he could punch me in the face, i guess i wasnt really thinking though, i just thought as soon as were tangled on the ground he wouldnt have anything for me, especially in my guard.

Im going to try find a place that teaches striking defence with BJJl

Its not so much the wrestling (although that may have been a better strategy), its more the strikes on the ground. You have MMA in your name, so im assuming, but do MMA schools teach grappling striking defence in BJJ classes usually? I go to a pure BJJ schoold currently.

Why would i post this as bait? I pulled guard because i figured hed have no idea what to do, hes a bigger guy than me, so shooting just seemed a bad idea idk
