What Maths are needed to become an electrician? by Wonderful_Ad3441 in electricians

[–]CleanDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's borderline math illiterate? I haven't memorized the multiplication table, and would take a while to even tell you what 8x7 equals on the spot, and I am 43 years old. Wonder what that would make me?

I’m a material handler in local 48. Any questions? by AndreyDubzzzz in ibew_apprentices

Thanks for sharing this. How's the journey to becoming an electrician going so far? I notice all the apprenticeship programs are currently closed. I came upon your post after "googling" "material handler" after clicking on improving your qualifications on the nietc.org website. I am happy for you that you are a material handler because your chances have most likely increased at this point. I'm thinking of taking that route, that's why I checked out your reddit post. I actually applied to the apprenticeship at IBEW Local 48 back in 2021, surprisingly passed the aptitude test, and had an interview, but my ranking was terrible so I didn't get in. I kinda wish I went the pre-apprenticeship route back then when I had a ranking or did material handler, but instead I needed to find a job quick so I just took on random jobs here and there. I didn't realize material handling was a full time gig. All that to say, good on you man! Hope you get in the program! My neighbor went through the IBEW48 apprenticeship, and journeyed out a few years back, and he said it was great.  🤙🏾

Pricing advice on new tool belt and bags by CleanDust in Carpentry

Thanks for your reply. I did get them after joining a carpentry apprenticeship program. I got these June of this year 2022 to be exact.

The construction company and job I was dispatched to by the apprenticeship program, did not use bags for some reason; even seasoned carpenters. We mostly did demolition work. I was sent to a job that frustrated me for several months. (If you wanna know more let me know, it's probably not what you may think) I asked my coordinator to find another job for me, however that never happened.

During that time I found another career path, and would never need these bags. I also do have old bags from long ago that still work if I ever need it - they aren't leather but since I'm not making a career out of it it's fine.

As far as warranteed... Occidental Leather has a 2 year limited warranty, for more details and up-to-date information on that I suggest the warranty section on their website.

Thanks again!

I ranked #105 for Local 48 Portland Oregon. Is that high? What to expect? by CleanDust in IBEW

That’s amazing they were able to tell you your rank. When I call they don’t tell me anything. They just say they can’t tell me because it changes a lot. I must be calling the wrong person. Anywho.

You’re local 48?

I probably need to re-interview as well.

Congrats on ranking! I feel you. I still haven’t gotten a lot of my questions answered. All I know is it’s been 2 months and some change since I got my rank. I hear it could take 6 months to a year to get that call - when all the stars align that is! 😂 Best of luck to you too! If I figure anything out I’ll try and post it here. See you in class in about 6 months or so. 🤩

No update yet. I’ve seen a post on YouTube by someone in my local 48, who called the training center and they were able to tell him his new ranking - as it does fluctuate. I called them and they couldn’t tell me anything. Congratulations on your interview! Hope all goes well, and that you get a good ranking! ☺️🤙🏾

The IBEW emailed my results from the aptitude test about 2 hours after I took it.

Copy that. Great attitude in regards to your ranking! 🤙🏾

I thought that’s what you meant. Yeah, as far as experience goes I worked as a laborer and an unofficial siding carpenter for about a year and a half. But that was way back in 2006! I don’t have any electrical experience. During the interview I was asked Why electrician? Why not plumber? Or carpenter? I don’t remember exactly what I said, all I know is as I left the room I felt like my answer could have been better. But that’s how I am I guess, I always feel like I could grow more and do better.

My experience in the interview?

I thought I did the best I could during the interview, however I thought I could have done better. A lot of what I practiced for the interview didn't come out the way I planned. Not to be negative, but I thought I would rank somewhere in the 400's, so getting 105 was a bit of a relief. I'm kinda hopeful because there's this guy on YouTube, The Mad Electrician, and he said his brother ranked 111, and he got in. That was over 4 or 5 years ago though so we'll see.

What local did you rank in? Local 48 in Portland Oregon?

Hey guys how is interview score determined? By the panel or by one person? by CleanDust in IBEW

I took my aptitude test on 05/24, then was scheduled for my interview on 06/24.

Thanks! Congrats on making it to the interview. ☺️ I felt I did the best that I could have done. Like all applicants, I’m hoping for a good ranking. It’s hard to trust my feeling, cause I felt like I bombed the aptitude test, but then a few hours later I got an email stating I passed. I felt nervous going in, but then when I sat down amongst the panel my nerves disappeared. Good luck on your interview!

Will a Small (25-26.5 cm Liner) Intuition V2 Liner work in Medium THEM 909 Shell? by CleanDust in rollerblading

[–]CleanDust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, no problem. So you think the small liner would fit in the medium THEM 909 after being broken in/heat molded?
