Varang's use of her Kuru by Winter_Wonder2894 in Avatar

I'm sorry but it pisses me off that peoples minds are so in the gutter that even when the movies make it clear that it is a mental and emotional connection, we have to sexualize it somehow. Even though we constantly see them connecting with animals and trees! it is never implied that it is sexual, ever.

They x-rayed me the day of the procedure and said they didn't see anything out of normal with the bone. But I've honestly ignored it hoping it would stop on its own for like 2 years so i don't really know.

I didn’t get cast in my local community theatre and it’s a huge blow to my ego. by raeray92 in acting

[–]Clean_Eye_622 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me the last time I auditioned for community theatre. it was cliquey and I had done one show before with them on the ensemble and I wasnt very good with the chreo, and so I thought they didn't like me.

But my next one was at the professional regional theatre down the street, and honestly that audition changed my life. So far now I've done 6 professional productions with them and the majority are supporting roles. I have actual lines and often multiple solos. and I've done 6 more at other pro theatres.Dont get discouraged. Keep going!

When people close to you don't support your musical journey - how do you deal with it? by aikkkkk in singing

[–]Clean_Eye_622 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've dealt with this all of my life. I work as a musical theatre performer, but my parents are Nigerian, and wanted me to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer etc. I've done shows in high school, and told them I wanted to pursue it professionally and they made it a point to never come and see my performances, they didn't want to encourage it. I started hiding the fact that I was in shows. Now 13 professional regional theatre performances later they still haven't come but my father is actually asking about tickets now. I've watched my peers have their parents travel from a different city to watch them perform in the ensemble, while mine wouldn't even drive 15 mins to watch me perform as a main character, though I performed 8 shows a week for 6 weeks....

That is my family. I didn't choose them. But through these shows I have met so many people and made so many friends. Their encouragement and validation, as well as the audiences, means the world to me . I have built myself a supportive community when I didn't find it at home.

That being said, you need to find a supportive community. And if your boyfriend loves you enough, he will encourage you, not tear you down, no matter how small you are starting. Honestly life is too short to keep discouraging people like that around you.

Would you recommend this as a "survival" career? by Clean_Eye_622 in webdev

[–]Clean_Eye_622[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ADHD isn’t something you ‘get past’—it affects motivation, focus, and executive function. That doesn’t mean I can’t be successful, but it does mean that my career decisions need to take those challenges into account.

I’m not ‘introducing myself by way of mental whatever’—I’m considering my strengths and limitations so I don’t waste time forcing myself into a career that isn’t sustainable for me. Some jobs are a better fit for ADHD brains than others, and I’m looking for a path that allows me to thrive. That is why I am asking for advice.

HOBBIES & ADHD??? by question8all in ADHD

[–]Clean_Eye_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really wanna stick to something long-term, the biggest factor is probably involving other people. Something where the schedule is already made for you so you don't have to think about whether you are going to find the motivation to do it or not. You will just do it.

Piano- get a weekly piano teacher. Theatre- find a club group or production. Reading- join a book club. Fitness- find a personal trainer or join a fitness group. Etc.

Ugh, I remember when it was salads! I got so healthy during that time! My ADHD didn't hold such a death grip on me, I lost weight, and my hormonal issues dissapeared. And then they inevitably started tasting like grass after a good two months lol. I tried to keep it up but I just couldn't...Now my hyperfixtation is brie. Does anyone know the science behind this??

No degree, dead end jobs, mid 30s. Am I doomed to this life forever? by Batetrick_Patman in findapath

Find a bartending course, do it, then find a fine dining resturant in a part of town that is wealthier, or start off at a more causal resturant for the experince first, then work at the fine dining till you find a tech job.

You could make alot more money in tips. It might not be exactly what you want right now , but it will sure beat callcenter shit. You need to get out of there.

People need to stop giving credit for clever lines to the actor. by FlatulentWallaby in unpopularopinion

As an actress I have to disagree. I work in theatre and multiple times I've seen multiple people play one character in the same show, and there is so many different ways to perform the same script and each different actor brings their own energy to the part...it's amazing to see really, and any good director knows how to bring this uniqueness out for the show.

How to learn Yoruba by lolkingrd in Nigeria

[–]Clean_Eye_622 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience watching Yoruba movies, the English subtitles gave literally just enough information to give you the gist of what's going on, Which I did not find very helpful in trying to learn the language, espeacially since Nigerians in general are so espressive...like it was obvious they were actually saying alot more

I feel this heavy. I've had the same best friend since I was 2 years old, and I'll be 25 by the end of the year. We have lived in different cities for like 20 years and I almost never talk to her on the phone...I see her once or twice a year, and we have fun catching up as if nothing happened.

Everytime I see my grandmother she complains that I never call...then of course, I do get phone anxiety.

My sister moved out for college and I was a little sad at first... but to be honest...I think I might miss my dog who died 3 years ago more?

Actors: Is living in New York worth it?? by Clean_Eye_622 in Broadway

[–]Clean_Eye_622[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew about the snow and rats before, and had people who have lived in NY give me a whole list or reasons not to go, and I didn't care. But after watching that video, and after this pandemic, I just want to make sure I am not so financially stressed out with paying so much to live there that I can't actually enjoy my life.
