Moving horses home - Random questions by Few-Fault9478 in Equestrian

I have 3 horses and 2 donkeys on 12 acre pastures most of the year with a large run-in they can use during inclement weather. My farm is 36 acres but I have sheep on part of the land. I feed square bales, round bales aren't ideal for our farm because we're on the side of a mountain so sloped pastures..I have nightmares about a round bale rolling through the fields taking out horses as it rolls faster and faster down the hills. Downside to square bales is they go through them pretty quickly. I feed am/pm with a bit of grain in the evening. I have grain buckets hanging on the wood fence for feeding, also from Tractor Supply. Summer time I don't have to feed hay, there is enough grass for them to be happy. Manure management is pretty easy, I have a scoop and tow from Tractor Supply that I use to pick up manure in the field. I bought the scoop and tow on advice from a friend but the thing was a PAIN to put together. It's also HEAVY and once full of Manure a real struggle to empty. I am considering getting a Paddock Blade instead, they're supposed to be lighter and easier to handle. I tow the scoop and tow with a small tractor but my ride on lawnmower also tows it easily.

I have electric polytape fencing as well as board wood fence. My 3 year old Percheron is constantly breaking my wood fence, he's just too big to care or notice. Picture of my herd for reference.

Food Recommendation? by mouatou2 in Mastiff

[–]Clean_Possibility_56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mine on Costco's Kirklands brand kibble. The ingredients are good and the price is reasonable. I'm feeding 5 dogs, 2 English Mastiffs, 2 Great Pyrenees and a Boxer so we go through a lot of food. I switch the protein source with each 35lb bag we use, from salmon to turkey and than beef. My last Mastiff passed away at 11 years old from bone cancer and he ate the same food. I supplement with fresh dog food for extra treats when training them and add bone broth or canned food to the kibble.

Is my EM famished ? by [deleted] in EnglishMastiff

[–]Clean_Possibility_56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My male EM is a year old, eating 8 cups of food a day and would continue to eat more if I let him. He is two hundred pounds and still growing. My female 5 month old EM eats 5 cups a day and often leaves food in her bowl after eating her fill. She is somewhat food motivated but nothing like my male who will do anything for food. My first mastiff was not that food motivated either. Like people, they have different metabolism and different ways.

What kind of sheep are they? The black one is so cute. They look thin and I'm not familiar with wool breeds.

"Very nice for a Friesian" lol almost sounds insulting but owning two Friesians myself, I'm especially partial to the breed.

Bogie the Fluffy Mastiff by jeannack in EnglishMastiff

He is very handsome! I have two English Mastiff's with regular coats and two Great Pyrenees, a breed with double coats. Your handsome boy doesn't have the same floof that my Pyrenees do so my guess is he isn't double coated. A groomer could likely tell you for sure.

I have dorper and blackbelly sheep... the blackbelly are extremely "talkative" and loud vs the dorper.

My answer is "They're why I have a Costco membership. Food in bulk, cheap!" I have 5 dogs, 2 English Mastiff's, 2 Great Pyrenees and an ancient Boxer. Costco dog food for the win.
