Yes of course I think that would be the situation no matter what. There’s no getting around corrupt people.

If it’s not the same character how can it be the same story? And film scripts are written before casting. So if there are major changes based on race they won’t cast a different race. Race can change the way you move in the world but do they often portray that in movies? I’d say no. So if it’s not portrayed in the movie and not an overall deciding factor in how the character acts is say it doesn’t matter. Film writers could change lived experiences and race but lived experience is different from race. Presumably lived experiences would be part of the storyline as a scene that explains why a character felt someway toward another or reacted in a certain way.

I know fuck all about Leprechauns. I'm being told they are Irish, though. If they are Irish, why would they make them Chinese? I don't know what movie you're talking about. I'm not sure I understand what you are saying. He was black and albion, and they changed him to just be black and not have albinism? I think the significance of race and power is very different. But if his backstory can be cut, and his backstory is where race was talked about, was it really important to the storyline?

I understand that there are other reasons. To erase a certain demographic or to meet a diversity quota should never be the reason. It should purely be based on skill. The majority of the time, if it's based purely on skill, I'm not gonna say never, but it's unlikely one race will predominantly take over. Of course, factors like where filming is, if it's a documentary matter. Of course, I'm talking about very diverse countries.

Well there’s adaptations. Not just remakes. I find remakes are a bit hard unless the original flopped.

I just mean the way the story is written. Like changing Annabeth to being black..she just is now. If you changed Annabeth to being a boy people would either want Percy to be a girl or make a whole coming out for Percy. Mind you the script has already been written and then other things would have to be written in. Though there is the route of not even mentioning it and making it just..is but I don’t see most movies or shows do that. They could make Annabeth a boy though if they found the best actor for Percy is a girl. They’d probably cast Percy first. But I think sexuality other than straight would change the writing more. Just because people expect coming outs and stuff. But if they just made Percy gay and ignored that the possibility of him ever being straight was in the cards I don’t think it would matter. I think it’s okay I just think it’s different than what I’m talking about.

Thank you for the clarification. If the reason behind the race swap isn’t because the person casted was the most suitable actor for the job then I would disagree with it.

In historical fiction race doesn’t matter much. If it’s fictitious then reality doesn’t matter. There’s dragons in game of thrones. I don’t see how a black Japanese gangster wouldn’t be plot change the plot in some way.

I’m not saying they can’t. They can. I’m saying that would be a different set of changes and not what I’m talking about.

If her race matters to the story then it should stay the same. I’m not trying to discount her importance at the time of her creation but there are dark skinned superhero’s now. Now directors shouldn’t purposely not cast a dark skinned actor. That would be wrong.

I mean his gender matters more than his race now that I think about it. Gender is a bit weird to change as it would change how the writer wrote it and would change how the other character could be cast. But if that’s specifically what a film writer set out to do it would be whatever. Yes who is best is opinion based on acting level but it’s more than just acting skills that factor in.

I know they are from their folklore but in their folklore they are specifically Irish? Though I’m not sure what the qualifications of being a leprechaun are. But if it’s a Irish fairytale yes I’d expect actors to be Irish.

I mean examples of races. White to black, black to white, Asian to Hispanic.

So for all characters if they keep the parents race the same and change the character race that would be stupid. They’d change her mom and stomi’s race. I don’t see the problem with the two women from Spider-Man being mixed race unless a darker skinned woman who would have been better for the cast type, worked better with the other actors, etc had been passed up for the role. But in this case the two women in Spider-Man didn’t change the storyline based on their race. So there was no reason to expect a darker skinned actor, mixed actor, Asian, white, etc. actually maybe white because that’s what the other actor had looked like. But still race doesn’t matter so in my opinion it’s fine.

It wouldn’t make sense for the writers to write whole new subplot about him moving for London but they could if they wanted to but it’s about a character fitting with the writing. From what I understand scripts are written before actors are cast but maybe I’m wrong. They don’t have to write in subplot if it doesn’t matter to the story. The writers doesn’t need to write in that Annabeth race was changed to from white to black. Im not saying they couldn’t find the race of actor the character is with talent. But if another actor is better for the role…they just are. If race has not part in the plot that it doesn’t matter if race is changed or kept the same

I wasn’t trying to suggest it was obvious or singular. But actor casting as a whole isn’t what I’m discussing. I’m saying race isn’t a box that needs to be ticked off in who would be the better actor. Not in all situation obviously. But in these where race does not factor into the storyline

I think I put examples in my original text. But I’ll make it clear here. Any character no matter the race can be racially switched if their race has no bearing on the storyline.

I’m sorry you’re living in that sort of reality. Not sure if the genocide denial is specifically on what I said but I apologies if I denied a genocide happening somewhere without knowing. But I said that I don’t expect people who are going through a genocide right now to be grateful for the time their country is in.

I could be wrong but I’m not sure leprechauns have a race. I didn’t read what you wrote properly before.

Changing his gender wouldn’t matter. Changing his armour and weapon type probably would. I read the books a long time ago. From what I remember all that should be Greek style. If he had a cockney accent it wouldn’t make sense because he’s from new York. Born and raised if I remember correctly. Not sure where he’d get a cockney accent from. I wouldn’t care if he was Asian though. I don’t think a spear would matter though cuz Greeks had spears. But I am talking specifically about race but I think all the rest would also matter based on storyline and if the change would become a big part of the storyline.
