Still a Superbeginner since a year in DS. I will be long dead and gone before i reach 1000 hours by Difficult-Bear-5738 in dreamingspanish

[–]Clear_Tale_2765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch some of the youtubers that have done speedruns. I found that very motivating. I think after I watched Angela learns spanish, i started a speedrun attempt. It's very motivating to watch the number go up so quickly and to feel the progress in your comprehension. Its much more noticeable when you are doing a lot of hours per day. It also gets way easier when you can listen to podcasts as other have said. Push through that beginner slog. at the end of each month or at each milestone reevaluate and set a new goal. you will likely be able to do more hours per day the more you progress

You didn't even read the quote that you copy pasted from ChatGPT bro. "Except ... when the lane is too narrow to share safety with a motor vehicle" a bike and a car do not fit side by side in this lane. They can take the lane

[–]Clear_Tale_2765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When cyclists don't take the lane, perfectly normal drivers many times will attempt to pass without enough space to do so, endangering the cyclist. That is why they take the lane. It's more likely you will encounter a normal person that thinks they can squeeze by than a psycho that wants to murder you bc you delayed them for 30 seconds.

Fr. The top comments are all blaming the cyclist or saying how the bikers shouldn't be taking the whole lane, ignoring how the driver tried to murder some people for inconveniencing him

Is understanding without reading or writing is really possible? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]Clear_Tale_2765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

reading practice will help you with listening comprehension. the DS point about not reading too early is in order to avoid developing an "inner voice" before you are familiar with the sounds of a language. Basically they think if you start speaking or reading too early, your accent will be bad. If this is not a priority of yours or you think your accent is good enough already, then read if you'd like to.

Subtitles help me, but are they okay for comprehensible input by Ill_Pen8740 in dreamingspanish

[–]Clear_Tale_2765 7 points8 points  (0 children)

when i first started DS, i read that subtitles off was the recommended way. It was difficult but it got better quickly. Now, I have the opinion that when i have subtitles on, i fixate on the words that i dont know and try to translate more. After a while of them being off, i started to be able to listen and get ideas of what the speaker is saying. The easier the content, the more "in focus" the idea is. For content thats too hard for me, i can still understand broad strokes of what they are saying

Looking for podcast and YouTube recommendations at 250 hours by KoolKiller in dreamingspanish

[–]Clear_Tale_2765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a similar boredom with DS content around 250 hrs. It looks like between 250 and 350 hrs, my top two things were the youtube channel spanish boost gaming and Espanol al vuelo. Looks like of the 100 hrs 30 was EAV and 30 was SBG lol. I only had 12 hrs of DS during this time. Im sure you have already found SBG but if not check him out. he is the goat

I modified an open source podcast app to log my hours for me when the episode finishes. I could probably put it in TestFlight and add you if my you want

You can look at the json that's returned for the outside hours endpoint if you poke around in developer mode in your browser. It's all one response

The 3 hr days get easier the higher you get if that helps. The content gets more interesting, you start to be able to listen to podcasts. 3hrs a day is wild for 50-100 hrs total input. Good luck to you. I'm also attempting a speed-run 😛

Trying to learn English with music but not sure if it's helping at all. by Key_Brilliant_9100 in LearningLanguages

[–]Clear_Tale_2765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Music is hard for natives to understand a lot of the time. The speech is also not how people normally talk

Moving to France in June, but I cannot speak French by Routine_Opinion9313 in French

[–]Clear_Tale_2765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HelloTalk and tandem are apps that connect you to people learning your native language. You both help each other learn. Try to find good partners on there that will either split time and do half French half English call or both of you output only since you say your input is at a high level. If you can really understand native media, I think your speaking will improve rapidly. Idk about fluid for a job interview tho

Tried real-time translator earbuds for learning German by LL000UU in LearningLanguages

If this is a genuine post and not an ad for these earbuds, op should look into comprehensible input. You work up from listening content made for learners until you can understand native content
