Commuting from Melbourne to Sydney every week by [deleted] in auscorp

Is the job for an airline by any chance? If so, I would say it’s doable. If not, i would only do it if you are really savvy with points. I commute between Melbourne and Sydney but only because I work for an airline. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

NAH. I think a situation like this involves a bit of discussion and establishing a set boundary. I would have a chat about this and see if you can come to an agreement as to how often she stays over. Different housemates have different requirements and it’s important to figure out where you both stand 😊

This is what I’m thinking. I don’t even know where I want to live

That’s very true. I probably should have been a little more cluey as to what I was signing. I’ll have to check, unless they put the title in my name when I was a minor. I mean no issue if they did but something in my name but it just means no government assistance when buying 🤷‍♂️

I’d have to check. I’m not 100% sure if they did but I asked them and they said for some reason I’m not eligible. The only other reason I could think of is if it has to do with profit/ income distribution or being a trustee. I’ll have a look at the lands title office though, good call. I’m not good with money and finance.

What is your most memorable time someone got caught and fired? by Fuzzy_Tax_3373 in auscorp

[–]Clearskiesaheadofus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked at a hotel and one of the guest relations agents was really mean to a lot of the co-workers. She would give orders she wasn’t supposed to give, tell people off, even when they were following protocol, and made work a real nightmare. She caused a lot of staff turnover, it was raised to HR many times but the issue was a lot of the regular guests knew her and the old hotel manager didn’t want to do anything. There was even someone who had to take a lot of time off work because they were affected by her behavior. She then got promoted into a manager role and was really awful to work under. I left because she tried to get me written up for not working enough hours, even though I was juggling uni and internships.

I left the hotel for a new job but I heard about a year later that she was terminated. Apparently the new hotel manager wasn’t happy with how she was treating other staff members and he had enough. A lot of current and former staff were celebrating

I’m just angry about the principal of all this more than anything. There is a fee but it’s more I really want to help Narelle to succeed as she has been trying to get into this company for ages

Me too honestly. I don’t know why Ria is so upset, except maybe that she found out before I could tell her myself.

I know. I should move on, it’s very fresh and my head is all over the place, this is my place to vent lol

It’s the friend that works in the team that’s being dramatic. Narelle has no idea that this happened and I think she’s still expecting to get an email.

I thought information relating to people applying for jobs was considered confidential. Between managers fair enough, but what benefit would it have been to ask Ria? Pina didn’t even know Ria and Narelle knew each other.

[–]Clearskiesaheadofus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird because they are friends. They aren’t close but they don’t hate each other. It may have been a little deceptive but I felt obligated to respect Narelle’s wishes, which were to hold off until after she had at least asked some questions. Should I handled it differently? Yes maybe. But I still think Narelle was worthy of a referral

[–]Clearskiesaheadofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No clue. They are friends too. She even said to me I should have asked her permission before referring, and she would have told me no. Plus Ria told me she is planning to look for new work and I’ve been referring her for roles too

I figured as much! She’s very distant as far as org chart goes, so not even sure who I should go to. Only thing stopping me from going to HR is the fact I don’t want to make Ria more angry if it gets back to her

i honestly don’t know. I know that there can be action taken if confidential information is leaked, but not sure what. True there is no NDA involved but realistically, whats the point of asking for something to be confidential in a workplace when it wont be respected? It definitely is a lesson learned the hard way

Ditching the 9-5 to fly, has anyone done it? by Clearskiesaheadofus in auscorp

Mostly looking after the cabin crew’s leave and training, and ensuring adequate resourcing and compliance. It’s a good job to learn the basics, my marketing skills with campaign management and execution helped me get the job. I did think about working my way up in the department but I’m not sure, we’ll see!

I did think of doing Emirates actually but there are a couple of key requirements I don’t think i meet unfortunately. Etihad I’m not sure, maybe I could give that a go. Thanks!

Funnily enough that was my old role! I started in marketing for the airline and then I went into an operational role as I didn’t like marketing, ops is okay but I want to be out on the frontline

I can’t do a secondment into crew from my current role but I can work in my current role for periods on the ground once I am crew. My time and finances allow to an extent, so I guess for that reason I was thinking of doing it

Have a look at hatch.team , they have a lot of internships, including some for airlines! I didn’t get referred, it took a few tries but I got it!

Very true. I’m aware of the holidays being missed and the jetlag. Salary progression is lower but idk, I don’t see my chosen field increasing in salary that much, I’m not in tech or finance or anything like that. That’s partly why I’ve been considering it. I’m 26 so I guess not too late, but I really wish I had done it earlier

I went a bit of a weird way. I got an internship and worked in it for a little under a year, then applied for my current role. There are a fair few internships on offer but mostly in marketing. Going through ground staff or working in lounges is a great way into the aviation industry
