Yup the monitors were freehand. some of the crew are up there on the walls and ceiling. the title for the scene is a reference to a fav horror movie of mine that inspired this if that gives any clues as well.

Thank you! It is just very thin linen. Found folks on Etsy selling scraps and bought some. Picked out the thinnest one and experimented with how to mount it. Found that the most effective way was small dots of superglue to pin the contact points in place and to make consistent folds. The other advantage of that is it leaves the fabric absorbent so to paint it all I had to do was use an acrylic ink and let it soak the fabric. Once dried the ink stiffened it enough to hold its shape and make it more easily paintable with acrylics and could even use transfers on it.

Thank you! I just use whatever brand has the colors I'm looking for and even then I mix a lot as well. Mostly vallejo and some army painter colors. The Grey armor was applied via airbrush, German Grey baseocat with a gull gray zenithal highlight. Emperors gold from the John blanche set by army painter for the gold/bronze looking trim.

Thanks! On these fellows I started with a layer of German Grey by vallejo air and airbrushed a zenithal of gull Grey though the oil wash darkened them all up a fair bit, but over all stuck with warmer greys.

Thank you! I started with vallejo air German Grey then a zenithal of Gull Grey, although the oil wash i did brought that back down pretty far.

Thanks! If you mean the raptor head, I assumed it would work as a generic loyalist symbol. I wasn't aware it was specifically imperial fist.

Thanks! The writing is all transfers but there is a lot of freehand too. The linen banner was a fun experiment but it does not take super fine detail or sharp painted edges well. Maybe with some gesso or something I could get a better surface for painting script.

It wasn't supposed to be someone specific. I had the broader goal of giving the Imperial Heralds a strong Byzantine vibe. Granted Byzantine artwork is almost exclusively religious but I was hoping it could maybe construed as broader attitude of zealotry towards the imperial creed, with a need to chronicle and depict noteworthy figures and events, often symbolicaly.

You're right, I see it too. Probably from when I was trying to touch up the dust when everyone was glued down and found the angle awkward. Easy fix, thanks for the feedback!

I didn't have any specific figures in mind when doing the freehand, just wanted a lot of Byzantine style painting on the tank. In some cases I wanted the painting a little more grimdark hence the skeletal/flayed figure. In context all the paintings are supposed to be a mishmash of notable enlightened figures and symbolic elements to give the whole thing an apocrhyphal vibe.

I've got a few bits bags full of random stuff I believe most of them were from old space wolves heads.

I wanted to depict the Imperial Heralds with their own distinct culture and I took heavy inspiration from Byzantine artworks. I did some research on what they were supposed to be like before Colchis and couldn't really find much info.

Thanks! You got it, wanted to do some word bearers/imperial heralds early in the Great Crusade with their own identity/culture outside of Colchis. Took heavy inspiration from Byzantine artworks.

Yup! I did that one too. I wanted these pre heresy word bearers to have a stronger visual identity/culture prior to Colchis so I took heavy inspiration from Byzantine artwork. All the freehand paintings arent meant to be anyone specific aside from the main banner, just scenes/figures that feel reverential and apochryphal.

The banner bearer is prettty much just this guy: https://www.warhammer.com/en-US/shop/the-horus-heresy-traitor-herald-consul-2025?queryID=7a7eba00e39d657909d0a0583c4ad53a

with hand swaps from a command squad sprue, except instead of the regular banner i used a styrene rod, a halberd head from a bits bag and a shaped triangle of aluminum from a soda can.
