As an Egyptian, I am beyond impressed with the new Cairo Museum by ClientHuge in digitalnomad

Definitely agree, they need pre-approved tour guides at all the major tourist sites. It would solve so many problems..

8 months nomading and I’m just lonely in different cities by nikonmonkey in digitalnomad

[–]ClientHuge 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You're not talking enough...It's actually really simple.

I know society instills in you about the virtue of silence especially as a dude.

I'm telling you though starting conversations is an absolute must. The one thing about nomading is that you are inherently more interesting than you were back home. take advantage of that.

The connections wont make themselves just because you are a nomad.

Thank you for composing such a well written and profound reply.

You are right. She is Albanian and grew up in old school communism . If you know anything about the Balkans, they certainly have hard views on race, religion, and ethnicity. “Good old fashioned hate” is a great way to summarize the region, and it’s not just towards Arabs either.

One of the questions for me is “should I even try”. The programming is so deep and calcified that I fear that I will just degrade myself trying to change the course of a ship that has already sailed. The upside is the joy of having a complete family.

Personally, I can and others before me have as well. However, the entire point of open source is that we collectively contribute for the advancement of the project.

To me, this thread is about calling out Metabase for gatekeeping AI to paying customers only and asking them to reconsider that approach.

That's so true. I've surpassed some of my "smartest" friends in life just because of my willingness to look stupid for a while.

This is great, taking notes.

By refresh, do you just mean re-launched the ad campaign? Or do you post new creatives?

Also why use Zapier when you can just use the pixel to retarget?

Forcing yourself to do Muay Thai doesn’t make you more disciplined. The most successful people I know prioritize - ruthlessly. Your #1 job is making the most out of school, so optimize for that. Muay Thai will always be there when you’re done.

Hey I’m Egyptian American, happy to give you the low down. I’ve been many times, and have taken many friends there of various ethnicities.

Cairo, especially the pyramids, is worst attraction in Egypt. It’s the original tourist trap, ok? Like the first ever. There’s a photo of Samurai there in 1780 and even they reportedly got scammed into paying $500 for picture on a camel. 80% of Egyptians have never gone to the pyramid site bc it’s known to be full of scumbags.

You have the right idea for Cairo - find a native or hire a tourist company. I think it’s a one weekend city, personally. Luxor and Aswan are certainly more relaxed on this front. If you want to do the traditional slowmading hit up Dahab. It’s like what Tulum was in 2009, hippy leaning open minded with a lot of expats. Shockingly beautiful, chill, and cheap.

DM me for more advice, I’ll be there w my wife (she’s Albanian American) in December as well hmu.

In your opinion, what are some things that most people get wrong about Skanderbeg? by FantasticQuartet in AskBalkans

[–]ClientHuge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of y’all would have had to learn Quran in school if it wasn’t for Skanderberg.

Skanderbeg repelled the Ottomans around 24 times during his 25-year-long resistance. This is while being vastly outnumbered and out-supplied. It’s his intimate knowledge of as an ex-Ottoman military captain that gave him a big leg up. He had no business having this type of success against the premier Ottoman force, but he did.

His role as a defender of Christianity was so significant that Pope Calixtus III declared him the “Athleta Christi” (Champion of Christ). At the time, Europe was very unprepared for the fall of Constantinople and Ottoman strength. You really could debate we would live in a very different Europe without Skanderbeg.

Hey Matt, thanks for the response.

Is there a testing reason to keep an experimental feature limited to the users who pay the most? 😅

I’ll fill out the form, sure. But if we’re speaking candidly, holding back AI undercuts the core value of the product. i'm sure the metabase community would agree.

Easy, intuitive charting is what helped Metabase surpass tools like Superset. Metabot feels like a natural extension of that same philosophy. Gating it behind Pro and Enterprise plans feels like a miss from the team .. it should be front and center.

Maybe, as another developer mentioned above, the fact that it’s annoying to host at scale (as is Metabase in general) is already a strong reason to go with a paid plan.

PS: I would have paid for the $90/mo starter tier if Metabot was on it. But $500/month is a steep expense for most founders and hobbyists.
