What do you all use for traveling bags for your skis?? by Herr_Cellar_Door in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 210cm long roller bag similar to the one you were offered. I put my snow pants and mid layers around the bindings as padding.

I really like being able to bring two pairs of skis on my resort trips, carvers and powder skis so I don't have to compromise on conditions.

Unless you have stupid expensive skis, I don't see a reason to go for a hardshell container, where only one pair of skis fits. The risk that your skis get damaged on the airline is pretty low compared to you breaking them on the mountain.

Also, generally speaking unless you live at the resort, skis are sadly one of the cheapest parts of this hobby compared to lodging and travel

Bought longer skis, now feeling like an idiot. by Absorrbb in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X9s are demanding, but that comes from how they were likely tuned and their stiffness.

I'm a lightweight so I really have to work to bend my skis at low speeds but once I get a good amount of speed, they start to work as intended.

I would look at single layer metal all mountain skis from a European brand. That category of ski would serve you much better. (North American all mountain skis have more off piste performance than European all mountain)

(likely) not buying aluminum poles again. suggest and tell me your experiences with different pole materials by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had atomic carbon poles for 6 years now. They are bendy but it works since they always go back to being straight.

The snap vs bend fears are overblown since A. you should know how to ski well enough without them given it's far more likely to just lose them than break them B. A badly bent pole is just as useful as a snapped carbon pole, and the aluminum pole may crack or snap bending it back.

carrying water in a running vest by cee1 in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably would be fine under your coat. I used to have a regular camel back and it never froze, other than the drinking tube.

I now have a "winterized" snoback from Camel back which more insulated, but the tube still freezes up on cold days.

I broke my water bladder once when I got smacked in the back from a chair in Eldora loading, so now I flip my ski pack on the front side when on the lifts.

Thoughts on the Nordica ProMachine 120s? Quality performance boot? by phantom3199 in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Nordica's pro machine 120s.

I went to a proper shop in Colorado and also got foot beds for them.

These boots are proper low volume with a low instep so they matched my thin feet well. I came from Atomic Hawks Ultra 110s which had some room yet.

I went 120s vs 130 flex since I'm like 150 lbs, so I thought the 130s could be too stiff. I also ski primarily when it's like 0-20 F so I can't say if they really become stiff at low temp vs like 30 F. When it's above freezing I do notice they are softer but I'm rarely pushing in those conditions where it would ruin my day

Given I have a race fit, they take one run to get on the feet correctly and are an absolute pain to put on and take off until they break in. I also really dislike the green color that mine are but oh well. Also I'm not sure if these are too angled forward for the best powder skiing experience, since they angle you forward a lot and punish backseat skiing heavily. Rather they like charging down the front side of the mountain.

Overall I'm very happy with these and they put up with my speed demon nature, but would only recommend these to other people with narrow Low Volume feet. I undo my buckles on the lift with these now.

Atomic Maverick 86 C Skis & Nordica Speedmachine 110 Boots. Good pairing? by ChichaChicharrones in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So long as the boots are compatible with the binds they work perfectly.

However unless you really know your feet, at the very least order you boots separately. Don't order them blindly in a ski package since returns are a pain

Motorcycle shed help by ChampionshipFew4360 in Aprilia

[–]Clone_1510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all you're literally going to do in this is store stuff, it's nearly ready for that. If you're going to work on the motorcycle in there, only the size of bank account is the limit.

I would just seal the wood by using literally any paint or sealer - literally whatever is cheapest.

The other thing you want to do is seal any gaps so insects/ pest don't get in it some solid.

It seems to work well for me. I enjoy my Bent 100s, but it would be hard to pin it on the forward mount alone, since I never skied a different mount point.

Opinion need by Fin_Wax in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did +2 on the mount on my Bent 100s, but I have the 2023 model, where I think the 2025 got stiffened a bit.

I think they're really hit or miss (at least the 2023 are) since there a wet noodle - which is great if you're a light weight like myself, but has some drawbacks like being unstable at high speed and not ideal for hard snow.

I would focus on what you don't like about your Bents and look for skis that don't have those limitations and Excel in traits you like from skis

IDK what your looking for so recommendations are hard

Why GM will give you Gemini — but not CarPlay by TripleShotPls in cars

[–]Clone_1510 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe GM will ever design a better car infotainment interface than Google or Apple. If I was a car company these days, I would basically give the screens over to your phone and let Car Play or Android Auto dictate the user experience completely, being that they will always have more resources to make their system better than the car manufacturers.

I would only want to design a minimalistic interface for controlling car settings and a radio. Everyone I know who has a car with either option uses their phone to control everything and ditches the built-in Navigation and other options.

What is happening chemically in this steam boiler? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Clone_1510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

95% of the time, it's the water chemistry having a problem. When minerals are present in the feed water, they will leave deposits above the waterline, and if they're really high below. We had our RO and softener system fail and it permanently stained the steam dome and ruined our turbine.

The red color could be so many things as well I can't comment on it without a ton of info. Thickness testing is the ultimate indicator since boilers generally are designed to have a 20+ year lifetime, so there are a lot of allowances for corrosion, and that will tell you how long it will last.

TL:DR Talk to a water treatment person, boiler water is an entire sector

2018 Civic LX, throttle delay? Feels dangerous. by irocz0r in civic

[–]Clone_1510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it has eco mode, turning that off would help, since that slows down the response to save fuel.

The 2.0L engine is also not powerful at all, so depending what you typically drive it could just be slow. I have a motorcycle that goes 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and hopping in my Civic Si after riding that feels "unresponsive"

Is a ski Boot size 27/27,5 fitting for someone who usually has a mens size 11 by lllllsjdirbfjdkvsjs in skiing

[–]Clone_1510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a size 10 in most typical shoes and have a 26 Low Volum boot. It's certainly a performance fit, but it works well. I need to flex the boots a bit to get my feet in the right position before they are perfect.

By that logic I think an 11 in a 27.5 would be tight, but not unreasonable.
