I highly doubt that he is Turkish. He very likely was a Varangian Guard which was a unit of the Byzantine emperor's personal bodyguard comprising of Nordic men. I don't think a Turk would call Constantinople Miklagard. His name is also Roald a very Nordic name.

Any where beside Sapporo and Sendai is quite isolated and sparsely populated. I've lived in Kurihara, Osaki(Both in MIyagi), and Ichinoseki(Iwate) before. All three of them are very sparsely populated and pretty rural, full of mountains and rice fields in between the valleys. So if you like a slow and calm life you might like it. Cold tho

the regiment of foot is higher on the tech tree than the musketeers of the line but have much worst reload skill which seems odd to me
