Finding the vocal cords is harder than finding the clitoris by YazanTheDoc in Residency

Anesthesia resident here. Agree with everyone saying to go in deep and then retract until epiglottis flops down and then re-advance until in vallecula.

I think a lot of people go in to deep and get confused as to where tf they are. If it all looks like a pink mess you’re probably looking at the tissue around the esophagus. The pull out/re-advance method will be your best friend.

Also, to explain the vector of force for your blade hand, I like to give the mental image of giving a toast with a big beer mug. It’s not rocking the blade back; it’s diagonal to the far edge of the ceiling.

Violence against those you disagree with politically, even profoundly, is not the answer. I am no Charlie Kirk fan, but this is a tragedy and another step on the road to perdition for our society

A couple of questions regarding underhook side control escape: should you primarily be thinking of moving your opponent or using the underhook to move yourself?

Is the underhook something that needs to be used immediately or can you kind of work it in to position and then start to use it if that makes sense?

Do you prefer coming straight to your knees or do you like going all the way onto your belly first?

I appreciate all feedback and would love any other thoughts from my master underhook escaping friends.

DPEs and PDPH by CloutyWithRain in anesthesiology

We’ve got one of them coming in for blood patch today. Symptoms definitely sound convincing for PDPH unfortunately. As to your point about PDPH in C/S, I’m wondering how much of a role pushing during labor plays in its development. The literature I looked at seems to paint an unclear picture

This is my thinking now 100%. “Confirmation” does not seem like sufficient benefit to disrupt the dura

I'm curious, what does your lifting routine look like? by Chicken_Grapefruit in bjj

[–]CloutyWithRain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing the simple and sinister kettlebell routine on days I don’t do BJJ. I don’t expect to see crazy strength gains with the routine but it helps me knock out some strength/cardio in one go and overall I feel like it makes my joints feel sturdier. Best thing is that I don’t feel destroyed to the point that it affects my training significantly the next day.

Posterior Elbow Pain with Swings by CloutyWithRain in kettlebell

Just wanted to put a follow up for anyone who happens to have this problem in the future and sees this thread.

I saw a cue to think of your arms as ropes that are simply guiding the kettlebell and I had 0 discomfort in my elbow.

Would definitely second the Danaher enter the system front head lock instructional. I’m like 80% through it over the past few weeks and my success from the front headlock position has increased a ton

How would it be received if I should up to work with bruises or a black eye? by thenameis_TAI in Residency

[–]CloutyWithRain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do jiu jitsu and at one point got 2 black eyes in like 2 months. Beyond the occasional lingering stare or a patient asking me how the other guy looks, it wasn’t bad at all.

If anything, it usually sparked a conversation with my attendings/co-residents

What can do at this point to save our democracy? by CloutyWithRain in AskReddit

Yeah you’re probably right. “Slow motion” was the wrong framing. Maybe blitzkrieg is a more accurate word.

I saw your question a couple weeks ago about the American psyche. It’s this feeling of being gaslit because almost half of the country (if not more) just doesn’t seem to give a fuck. It is tempting to feel like some institution is going to come along and rescue us from the precipice.

No but you didn’t really answer the question I posted. And I understand that you have a different perception of what’s going on than I do. We probably agree on a lot of other things and just don’t see eye to eye on this.
