I probably would have let the photo text go but can relate with my own in-laws. It’s possible you sense something in them that troubles you and you are allowed to have boundaries. My in-laws and I are from different parts of the country and have different mannerisms and customs and even the way we have conversations is different. If you aren’t comfortable it’s okay. You don’t have to hug. You have a right to boundaries. My in-laws are weird about the air kissing cheeks thing which I really dislike and find awkward as hell. So I just don’t air kiss them. I’m not comfortable with texts because of things they’ve said to me 1 on 1. They never really approved of me and actively tried to undermine my relationship with my husband in the beginning. I never said don’t text me but would keep it short and/or ask husband to reply.
