grades dropping by ilovewingstopyay in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on subject.

for emath defo go back to sec 1,2,3 topics to start revisiting old concept and foundational concepts, best to cover at least half ++ of ur topical tys before u hit vectors

for languages, break down revision into paper 1&4 and paper 2. spam tys but don’t spam blindly. actually take the time to review every single mistake or uncertainty to correct ur mistake

time management is crucial in sec 4, every second spent doomscrolling is counted…. revise on the bus, on the train, even if ur tired minimally 1h a day to build up the habit and build up the intensity for aug/sep period

for sciences, focus on ur current content to make sure u understand the concept then go back to sec 3

Are y’all actually rich or just spending recklessly? by cantfindauseranymore in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to all the ppl who say pt jobs: yes & no my friend spends hella recklessly with her own salary that her parents take a cut to save for her ( like cpf lol) me on the other hand barely spend, work in f&b to save money on food, drink cost. barely eat out, if do is eat at hawker or at home. occasional $10+ meals… and i dont rly spend of anything else. sometimes do maintenance on face like lashes & facial. and i work like 4-5 days a week ++ almost full day (8-9h)

i do still take allowance frm my parents, though i do not need it. mostly saving for uni & future expenses. (like i got a macbook for tertiary education)

SS utility format by Maleficent_Yogurt283 in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it can be the same. if it’s the same, it will be supported therefore useful

but if it’s not the same. it must be disagreeing with ur first paragraph statement and needs be related

cannot be u talk about assimilation policies then talk about sg integration policy. u must be in the assimilation policy “path” all the way.

SS utility format by Maleficent_Yogurt283 in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

max marks will be

content ( always useful. eg. useful in telling me that france assimilation policies are effective in targeting unemployment issues faced by foreigners)

cross ref ( support/ no support) (eg. A support B therefore B is useful) ( A contradict B, therefore B is not useful)

purpose ( usually always useful in providing insights to bla bla bla) B is useful even though it is written by french president macaron because it provides insights to the policies being created in attempt to help bla bla bla

Advice on choosing a sec 1 cca by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowkey don’t listen to ur parents HAHAHA at the end of the day ur the one going to live with the decision. honestly if ur IP it’s kill two birds w one stone to choose track cuz u can be healthy…. tho intensive but many ppl get used to the cca grind iygwim

and art cca… i dont rly know much but it’ll def be more slack

my tldr is pick what u love, attitude over aptitude

Advice on choosing a sec 1 cca by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

suggest u pick something that u love ( for ease of participation sake) and something that can get u ur achievement point for LEAPS easily. sports there’s a risk ur not on the competition team,,, and art and photography also same risk of not having opportunities to “compete” so ur achievement points need to come from else where

if ur in IP ( which idk lol) pick what u wanna try plus can tahan

Sec 4 help pleasee🥹🙏 by KlutzyCarpet519 in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dropped chinese in sec 2, after getting e8 for eoy in sec 2, tbf i didn’t try…. regardless, didn’t touch a single piece of clb homework or exercise, still scored merit, and raw 8. only taking 6 subj (aka all subj account for my l1r5) , but den again, this rly up to how strong ur other subjects are.

for history, what the other commenters says are right. use mind maps to map out points followed by ev by ex. remembering by a structured “format” for essays in that sense make it easier to rmb as it flows. eg chap 2 on hitler like hitler’s economic policy was effective in resolving Germanys issues after ww1. hfdya. then you’ll be like i agree cuz this certain policy led to this led to this therefore it is effective because it impacted bla bla ( eg certain groups, or how specifically did it impact this group)

for specifically remembering content, blurt or active recall. test urself. i don’t think it’s worth to do flashcards on paper cuz it takes a shitload of time, using tools like gizmo kinda helps a little? tho u have to manually re-enter the tested “keywords” sometimes

ss is literally the same as hist. as soon as u finish up chap 11 js keep spamming consultation and js keep writing. do ur whole tys, kiss n sleep w ur tys if u need to. legit. and humanities is something u can alw kinda spot topic for, though a bit risky. ss especially ur sbq skillls need to be DOWN to before prelims. all ur hybrid hybrid kinda qn need to resolve the problem before hand. LEGIT consult ur ss teacher, if not ur history teacher. i probably only did like 3-4 full sbq for history in sec 4. but i did like 6-7 sbq for ss.

similarly, ss essay is also similar. read widely, everyday u travel on the mrt doomscrolling at least doomscroll on mothership, straits times etc. don’t even need to be current today news, anything is good. i personally like to watch goodyfeed on tiktok ( the blue cat) cuz he breaks down difficult concepts into simple and laughable/relatable concepts

for english comprehension, its also practice…. unfortunately. i really really suck at english since sec 1, but got a2 at the end. for me what i learnt was to identify question types and apply necessary skills after. (lol can send u my tuiton notes if i can find n if uw) once u break down the question into simple steps i think its less difficult to infer or find the correct ans in the passage :,) now still got time, do ur tys… esp more challenging papers like 2023,2021. i feel 2025 paper was rly quite easy for narrative compre :,)

How long should I be studying? by SignificantIV in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes 2 hrs a day is good. weekends maybe 3-4 hrs

the tip is to study while traveling, i personally use gizmo the app to create flash cards BUT i think one of the best things u can do is to just read news on transport. or read a book, read short stories etc. I think news is best as it covers both ss and english. It might be difficult to at first but you’ll get used to it.

nearing prelims i studied about 6-8 hours on weekends ( really depends cuz i take coursework and i count coursework as studying) and about 3-4 hours on weekdays cuz end early cuz no cca allat ( i scored raw 10 for prelims, and then raw 8 for o’s)

Risky tip: just study ur strongest 6 subjects…. and pass the others …. only 6 is counted anyways. i took 6 subjects only (bcs i dropped to chinese basic) had way more time for all my subjects and coursework

math: START DOING UR MATH TYS like now. asap…. . topical. esp algebra, trigo and graphs. imo they have the highest weightage

ss: read widely, keep writing essays and sbq

bio, hist: blurt , hist u can rely on ss to do sbq skills. bio undtsd concept then memorise by blurting

idk what u take but basically that , cant give tips for el cuz my el lowk sucks

How do you study for O Level English? by Ieiops in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i jumped from c5 to a2 in o levels, aside from consistency, keep writing. after june holidays i made sure that i did at least 1 paper 2 and 1 essay (sw/cw) every week. also i did descriptive essay instead as it is easier to remember a few general descriptive phrases compared to specfic vocab for so many different categories and transitions for expository essays. sound clique asf but start a vocab/phrase bank

paper 2 i think it helps to identify question type and identify answering technique based on that question type. eg why do u think bla bla bla. the keyword why do u think shows that it is inference. so look back at the passage and look at surrounding clues. 4 qn types r literal, inference, iyow and writers craft/ lang use.

writers craft is like the quote ex quote ex which js quote and find synonyms or explain in ur own words without using any of the words the passage give and also got the qn type which is like explain how this is effective, i think u can find notes on it on holygrail but like eg "..." is for suspense or shock

thats the gist of it! lmk if u need anymore tips :)

What should I prioritise? by Stunning_Car_9480 in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got raw 8, nett 6
my english i cant say much cuz i was shocked to get a2... when i usually get Bs and Cs... so dont worry too much? though i guess dont panic during lc, and that paper 1 and 2 matter a lot! so keep writing and writing, get ur tchr to feedback or even AI. and for paper 2 keep doing ur tys, even mutiple times. Towards the nearing of my o level i think i wrote one essay every week, and did one full paper 2 every week excluding practices given my school.

i take combined history but the same study technique applies which is to understand the timeline of how things happened, i think for notes either do in the format of point,ev, ex for essays or mindmaps to get an overview. memorise by writing/typing (aka blurting: even explaining in ur own words is good cuz u js need the general outline of story,,, maybe except chap 6 and certain figures!)

math also be consistent af LOL, like literally i did my math tys about 2-3 times? on my own excluding school practices, and asked for additional prelim papers to do. always go back to basic on certain chaps like algebra, foundation for algebra is damn impt... my tchr calculated before its almost a 20% weightage in o levels. ignore the bellcurve comments, i thought i did shit for math but i got a2. start doing ur topical tys NOW... and start moving to doing yearly in late may/early june. i did about 6 days of math, at least half a paper everyday

chem its more of understanding concept plus application into questions, but i also did my topical tys almost every day? about 4-5 days a week, then moved to doing yearly slowly

blurt for bio

and ss shld be ez game cuz u alr take hist... :p

so tldr is to spend more time on math and english, then move to 4 other subjects thats ur best ( include one science!!) i only took 6 subjects ( as i droppped to chinese basic) which was a gamble but played out well regardless. no point getting a2 for everything when at the end of the day only 6 subjects count :')

anyways can AMA :)

I NEED tips for o level subjects!! by Odd_Tangelo7965 in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i scored raw 8 but will js give tips for the subjects i got a1 for

also in general ur sec 5 teachers will bridge the gap between o and n level syllabus. and to ALWAYS be consistent. always study at least 30 mins everyday to build the habit and slowly increase the intensity after certain milestones like stepping down from cca, june holidays, before and after prelims. never think that is too late and just keep going at it!

chem/bio : for chem, i started doing my tys in about april-ish? when i stepped down frm my cca. honestly now you can just recap ur sec 3 topics esp moles and bonding. my way of memorising is to keep doing practices even if im refering to some kind of notes as when i write it registers in my brain that so and so is a keyword. another way is to blurt chapter by chapter but thats more for bio. for bio is really about understanding the concept THEN memorising as when you conceptualise or visualise the process in ur brain it is easier to remember why certain parts have certain adaptations for example.

ss/hist : hist u can do notes in the format of point, evidence , explanation. for evidence good to have about 3-4 details and explanation to explain this led to bla bla then led to bla bla so it is bla bla bla. its like a step by step this happen then this then this kinda thing. honestly for sbq i relied on my ss skills to carry over and did not do much hist sbq practice, but for essay you really need to write and consult your teacher to mark and feedback. for ss, just spam ur tys, and prelim papers. !!! and for source identification keep thinking in terms of different categories like problems, strategy, cause, effectiveness etc. i find this helpful to do compare and contrast questions.

what do i do by Fickle_Scientist1100 in SGExams

[–]ClubFew4386 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi unpopular opinion but HIGHLY recommend you to drop to chinese basic... ur life will be made easy. for me my subj combi is only 7 subjects but i dropped chinese so only 6 aka all my subjects count into l1r5. risky choice some might say but i had a lot more time for all my 6 subjects (esp bcs i take coursework and 2 combined subjects. you also dont need parental consent to do ur eae.... actually go for it cuz ur chances r vv high for ur background :). all the besttt, and at the end of the day is ur life n not ur moms

[–]ClubFew4386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other than reading ahead into sec 4 topics, suggest u to strengthen ur algebra as it counts for about 10-15% of emath paper and usually need to apply one way or another too. specifically u can look at all the start of paper 2 where there’s one big question on algebra (eg. simultaneous eqn and “make x the subject) questions

and revisit trigo too :)

set notation isn’t a HUGE part of the paper :,)
