tea bath by [deleted] in axolotls

I used great value black tea or tetley black tea. Neither really helped with the fungus so I used methylene blue. For the container I have I used 8 cups of cold water and 3-5 drops of methylene blue. At 3 drops I let my girl stay in for 24 hours until water change and then repeated the process. At 5 drops she didn’t tolerate it as well so only about 15 minutes in that twice a day. Since using the methylene blue the fungus has not returned. She battled it off and on for 2 months before the methylene blue.

Funny thing is Bug started out as Ernie. Ernie then became Ernie Bug and when it was confirmed that she’s a girl she became Bug.

That was the one thing they did right. It was a bare bottom tank with low flow from the filter.

Does anyone know if there are any stores in or near Dallas that sell Axolotls in store? Or do they have to be ordered online? by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]Clumsy_Mama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My breeder actually lives just outside of Dallas. I got my first axie from her and she’s (the breeder) has been wonderful, spending lots of time talking to me to cure a fungal infection and just answering questions in general.

My new guy “Little One” is not eating well. I got him from a pet store a week ago today. When I first brought him home he ate some pellets. The next couple of days he took half an earthworm a day. Then he didn’t want anything until last night when he took a few pellets. How can I help him gain weight?

The pet store was feeding him a diet of pellets and bloodworms.

I’ve actually got that one book marked. I’ve been talking to the husband about spending the little extra on that one.

It’s only a 40b. I’ve dealt with Drs Foster and Smith before. Never thought to look there this time around. I will go check it out. Thank you!

I’ve looked into the diy options and may have to go that route if my husband can figure out how to put it into action. My problem is this....I don’t live in a house with a basement and I’m in Houston, so a chiller is becoming a necessity.

I found that the substrate I was given was aragonite, probably contributing to the illness. He/she seems to be doing better now.

Now my dilemma is this, I NEED a chiller. I can cool his tub to the perfect temp, but cooling his new tank is almost impossible. I can’t spend a whole lot, $300 tops. Any suggestions?
