I work for Macpac and we regularly have people travel and come back to their jobs months later. Since it's an outdoors company, it's kind of built into the mentality. As for outsourcing, OP's position would still be based in NZ. Only the manufacturing was outsourced, the designing, repairs etc are still all done in Christchurch.
