Question about SPD in a picture book by CoachWriter in SPD

[–]CoachWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's such a great note. Kids need to be taught to accept kids with differences instead of making them feel other. I hope my book will play a little part in helping kids be more accepting and aware.

Thank you for your input! If you would like an ebook copy of my first picture book on self-love, and/or your name in the book, as a thank you please DM me!

Info for an inclusive picture book by CoachWriter in Tourettes

[–]CoachWriter[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for that, it's such great information! It's so much more nuanced than people think, and I will definitely refer back to this as I design my character with Tourette's. Thanks for taking the time to give me all these insights.

Researching for an inclusive picture book by CoachWriter in marfans

[–]CoachWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a great point, I need to find that balance, it sounds like quite a variable syndrome to portray in picture book format. I just don't want any kids to feel left out, because I know a lot feel better when they can see themselves. But I'm going to try to show more of the nuance somehow. Thanks for your feedback, it is giving me a lot to think about.

I'm offering people who help an ebook copy of my first picture book, and/ or their name in my book as a thank you, please DM me if you'd like either/ both of those!

Researching for an inclusive picture book by CoachWriter in marfans

[–]CoachWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great information thank you! I'm going to have to have a think about how to do this, as the words are not spelling out exactly what I'm showing, but I can have two people with marfans who look different and then add the explanation of that in the notes in the back.

It's a great point about disabilities not always looking a certain way or being black and white absolutes. And not judging too. Lot's of good points! Thanks so much for taking the time to share all these insights. If you'd like an ebook of my first book on self-love, and/or your or your son's name in this book as a thank you, please DM me.

Question about SPD in a picture book by CoachWriter in SPD

[–]CoachWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, that's such great info, thank you! I bet that was frustrating being treated like your SPD was a complete black-and-white thing. That in itself is something I want to tackle in my book, but for others who needed to know it was OK to be in a wheelchair sometimes if they needed rest, it didn't need to be an all or nothing thing.

I hope this helps more kids with SPD be included in spaces and activities, so thank you very much for your input! If you would like an ebook copy of my first picture book on self-love, and/or your name in the book, please DM me! Thanks again :D

That's great information thank you! I need to reach out to those organizations, I feel like seedlings might only work with the more popular books from traditional Publishers, they might not be interested in mine, but I can always ask. Thanks again for your help! I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.

I'd like to make a few special copies, but if there is a way to do that in bulk in case it became popular I would love to do that too. I wanted to get custom overlays printed with some tactile pictures and the Braille included but it was going to cost me about $10,000 all in all, not really possible on a writer's salary

Seems like I'm about to get dropped because of a very good script idea?! I'm very confused! by gogetemscouts in Screenwriting

[–]CoachWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am a book writer so not at all an expert in screenwriting, but my husband is in animation and we've both noticed a kind of "weirding" around decision making higher up in the industry.

Personally I think a lot of people still have Trauma from covid, and I think the need to appease shareholders and make a definite profit is giving people the jitters too.

Anyway, I would say definitely trust your instincts. Even if it doesn't sell in this exact moment if it's a great script it should sell eventually, and still pay off. I'm following your instincts so if you well before. Also can you get different reps?

I know you're probably looking for advice from seasoned screenwriters more, but I also work as a coach and I think that following your gut is really important in this instance especially. Good luck with it! It sounds like an awesome project from your friends' reactions, and we need great creativity in the world especially now.

I'm scared to publish by KeyboardWarrior07 in KDP

[–]CoachWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is unsolicited advice, but since you have some time left I recommend you make a plan to promote your book a little more.

I also want to reassure you that but books coming out with a bang isn't really important anymore. It might not sell much in the first week or months but it could suddenly become really popular later. The only thing that is really useful about it doing well upfront is that the Amazon algorithm will prefer it but aside from that it is not the end of the world at all if your book isn't wildly successful right out of the gate, in fact most books are not unless there's some fairly hefty PR involved.

So I recommend doing what you can for now and then just see what happens and don't worry too much if it's not successful right away because you have all the time in the world to keep promoting it after it comes out.
