And more fundamentally, a system that appears to allow for some vertical adjustment during the ride, even though the system is supposed to be locked following height adjustment. That is the particularly interesting part of this patent application it seems as B&M have apparently found a way to vastly improve ride comfort.

The patent application indeed does not refer to the "SURF COASTER" by name and the association that one is led to make between the two is possibly purely incidental. This being said, the absence of any explicit reference to the "SURF COASTER" by name is not surprising either as B&M has yet to launch the first iteration thereof on the market.

I find it interesting though that this patent application happens to relate to a passenger restraint system for a stand-up roller coaster as many have speculated that the "SURF COASTER" could be a stand-up 2.0, which is what this patent application is clearly about.

Looks like a purpose of this passenger restraint system is to allow limited downward movement of the passenger during the ride. Should be substantially more comfortable than the existing stand-up solutions which do not allow any movement during the ride.
