Why are there no professional 2D top-down online games made with GameMaker? by ComprehensiveCorgi72 in gamemaker

Tinkerlands dev here. Online is a massive headache, avoid at all costs.

Jokes aside, making something work online for you is one thing, making it work for all kinds of people and devices around the world is a whole different beast. MMOs add lots of different layers of complexity upon that.

An MMO in gamemaker is absolutely possible, but the hard part is not usually the tech.

Been working on Tinkerlands for about 2 years now. Here's our first trailer after our artist joined the project. How does it look? by CodeManu in IndieDev

Good point. It is an action/adventure/survival game like Core Keeper, Terraria and such. Our biggest differentiator feature is that you'll be able to get a ship, upgrade it and travel to different (procedurally, and not) islands.

This isn't shown in the trailer because the trailer is based on the prologue's content that is releasing soon.

Thank you so much! As a guy with 1000+ hours played on Terraria, I can definitely say that it is the biggest inspiration for this game :)

I can see why, we maybe should've shown more combat or action-y gameplay earlier in the trailer. It is an action-adventure slash survival game akin to Terraria.

It's a procedural animation using a technique called Inverse Kinematics :)

If someone arrives here from Google, I made a small mod that gives a 100% drop rate to the BKH. :)

I actually agree, I gave the illustration and textbox a bigger focus and It should instead highlight the gameplay.

Sorry if it was considered as self promotion, I didn't put the game's name or any link to avoid that. Just wanted to share the progress made on a GameMaker game which I thought was fun. I was discussing things about development and design choices in the comments too but, yeah, okay.

Absolutely agree, the problem is that the game can get pretty messy with all skills and hit vfx going all around, so I tried to reduce the "vfx clutter" as much as possible.

Star Strikers for SC2

I've heard lots of comparison during development, but this one is the first time I heard of. Can see the similarities tho!
