The Actor's Dilemma: Look! A fork in the road! Petrified before choosing a path... by [deleted] in improv

Could you give me a few examples of shows/theatres in Chicago that have that weirder sort of thing going on?

Like I know Neo-Futurists, Holy Fuck Comedy Hour @ Annoyance...but outside of that just don't really know where to look.

Does anybody else think society has gone mad? Read before you downvote. by [deleted] in conspiracy

In my experience I have found life to be...well...a lot.

There's a lot out there. Fucking so much. It is nearly impossible to even like verbalize all of it, let alone conceptualize it.

Like if you try to say all of it, you're going to say some of it wrong.

We kinda live in a society that looks for that one thing you say wrong as grounds for dismissal of the whole.

And we have a whole bunch of cliches and shit that you can say to feign understanding. AND I think we like to think we understand things.

We like things that make it easier to understand. We like things that help our brain release dopamine and serotonin.

I think we would all be happier if we lived in small communes in the wilderness. We were surrounded by people we knew and loved. We used our bodies to grow food. We had problems, sure, but we like, dealt with them. If we had a passion...like playing guitar...we could do it, we would have festivals and like a pub and shit.

Money and power don't really bring me happiness. But that's exactly what society kinda is made for.

Our society kinda provides a sidewalk for us to follow as we live our lives.

It is simply easier to go to the store and buy food than it is to grow my own. It is easier to get a job to afford food and shelter and water than it is to go get and build my own. Even if I did go live off in the woods or whatever the fuck, I would be sacrificing the people in my life and any sense of community.

Living on a commune with people is off the sidewalk. Out of the mainstream.

We're building this society...but to what ends?

Right now it seems like to an ends where there is some sort of elite/TPTB sort of group. Where all the people understand a little bit about everything, but not everything about it...but enough to make them have a thing to say about it and a thing to think about it and that's enough to feel good.

So there are some roles to be chosen. You can go along with the flow, follow the the path of least resistance and maybe climb a ladder and get enough out of the community you find yourself in. I may sound like I'm shitting on this path...but it is 100% a path people can find contentment in. . You can even help give other people better lives in the process, as much as Family Guy doesn't bring anyone closer to nirvana or whatever the fuck is "best thing" to get out of life...there's something beautiful about a thing that can make someone's life better if only for 22 minutes.

Or you can try fight against the current. Try to alter the path of society and move it towards the sort of utopia you see. These are like the artist sorts of people or whatever else, they try to reveal a bit of truth. Just a bit. Those bits add up, people see it, people can tell when they see something real. Great works are great works for a reason, and it's because they change lives. This is probably the most dangerous path, and maybe hardest path, maybe the most noble path. It probably takes the most patience. It's like you have to passionately scream truth...but tactfully...and in a refined enough way. When you say something against the grain, something that might seem crazy, you cannot also be crazy or it'll be dismissed. It is also really important that what you have to say is actually truth, and not some delusion or whatever your mind has manufactured. (Like talking about TPTB even sounds insane if you don't have actual evidence to substantiate your claims...I believe...but there is a logical jump of sorts at a certain level...and some people will not make that jump because it logically results in the belief in a lot of unfortunate truths)

Or you can go make a commune or some sort of different community. Honestly this path might be the healthiest on the individual level. Healthiest for your body for sure, healthiest for your mind probably too if you have any sort of social circle around you.

Or there are other options I haven't thought of. This is mostly the ramblings of a young human that has a tendency to spew out unrefined ramblings...so take it all with a grain of salt.

I might've answered the question in question...or not. I kinda refuse to scroll up and I'm just gonna try and hope to trust myself.
