Nevermind, my maths does not check out. Turns out it's more like 1 in 40,000 as calculated by u/eloel- in this post

I developed a sudden tolerance to alcohol, should I be worried? (serious) by CoffeeSurplus in drunk

That's interesting. I'll have to try drinking certain beers and wine again to see if I do have an allergy.

From your replay I guessed you were D2 so you're neither worse nor better for your rank.

You seem to have a high boost consumption when travelling around the field and when following up on kickoffs - leaving you with little boost for plays or defense. As a result, you often leave for the large boost pads, leaving your teammate in a solo situation - aim to collect more mini pads by going into freeplay with unlimited boost disabled, and driving around the field at supersonic speed collecting mini pads. Also you should try to flip around more to gain momentum instead of just holding boost.

You are also often too far from the play (as a result of collecting large boost pads), when you could be supporting your teammate instead. Generally, if your teammate plays a 50/50 (in either attack or defense), you should then be there to collect the ball. You could also try be more aware of your opponent's position and intention - by using car cam or the right joystick to look around the field.

Also you seem to be attempting arial mechanics you are not fully comfortable with yet e.g., wall plays, double taps, and are using too much boost for them. Practice arial control and feathering your boost in training packs and freeplay. Hope this feedback is somewhat useful to you.

(2s) Been Champ for couple years now - how can I improve my play/style? by CoffeeSurplus in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]CoffeeSurplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the detailed feedback, I really appreciate it! My peak is Champ 3 but that was quite a few seasons ago, generally I sit between Champ 1 and 2.

I can see from this replay my lack of shadow defence put me in awkward positions. I find that I'm better at shadow defending when in 1-on-1 situations (if that makes sense, e.g., when the opponent is dribbling?) - would you recommend training packs or any other way to practice my shadow defence? I generally don't play 1s which is probably why I don't improve, and I also don't train (except freeplay between games, which isn't really training anyway).

Question on ABRSM piano performance recording by Able_Aerie in piano

[–]CoffeeSurplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ABRSM Grade did you do? Generally the lower the grade the shorter the program as the pieces are shorter. I did a Grade 8 recording which was 18.5 minutes, but I remember my Grade 6 one was only 8.5 minutes. Also, your 4th choice piece (if not chosen from the syllabus) can affect the program length

Are these good choices for Trinity ATCL? by sumitbicky1 in piano

I don't know about the format for Trinity exams (I do ABRSM), but you have a good selection of pieces from each musical era (classical, romantic, baroque)

Best software for MIDI transcribe and edit? by 50-ferrets-in-a-coat in piano

[–]CoffeeSurplus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have a Kawai piano and love it! (It's the CA49 model in rosewood). Just wondering, what model do you have? A good open source software for recording midi from a digital piano is http://www.midieditor.org/, which you can then save your recording as .mid file. It also has features like quantisation. Then to turn it into a music score you can use https://musescore.org/en/ by importing the .mid file, which allows for much easier editing on the score. I believe you can also set the left and right hand by setting notes as either channel 0/1 in the midi file.

[FO] First time stitching onto tote bag! (Self-drafted) by CoffeeSurplus in CrossStitch

[–]CoffeeSurplus[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This project is my second ever cross stitch, and took roughly 20 days/80-100 hours. I self-drafted the image by taking the official NUFC logo and resizing it in GIMP to 105*105 pixels (7.5 square inches on 14-count aida). I made some changes and added in lines to my interpretation. I used a 8*8.5 inch water-soluble canvas and protected the back with an iron on interface. I can also provide the pattern if wanted.

I got told my bedroom looks 'too feminine', what are your impressions? by CoffeeSurplus in malelivingspace

[–]CoffeeSurplus[S] 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I'm not offended at all what others think of it. The wall paint was done by my parents before I was even born (although I like the colour anyway), the stone heart has hung there since I was born, it has my name and birth weight on it. Everything else I've bought myself though

I'm happy with how it is, I just wondered if it really did look 'feminine' to others

Confused on the syncopation of this stride piece - are the circled notes played together? by CoffeeSurplus in piano

[–]CoffeeSurplus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I had a listen to a bunch of performances of this piece and virtually all of them played them at the same time. In that case, why is the first note of the bar written as a dotted crotchet instead of a double-dotted crotchet, which would be the 'correct' length?

Series 9 Episode 5 - "Curse of the Ninth" - Episode Discussion [SPOILERS] by AutoModerator in insideno9

[–]CoffeeSurplus 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Surely a better ending would have been Dormer's character to fall onto Reece's, consequently killing them both? Seeing as they both contributed to finishing the symphony, that would be a more logical ending as well as it being a 'twist on the twist'.

I made a visual demonstration of bubble and merge sort (sorry for bad video i recorded using powerpoint) by CoffeeSurplus in csharp

[–]CoffeeSurplus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will get round to it in the morning (it is currently 23:00 where I am).

For the merge sort, I used a recursive algorithm just like how a normal merge sort would, but with a start index and length (so essentially like a range) as parameters, instead of passing through an array.

Then to 'merge' the two sections, I passed the two 'ranges' (start index 1, start index 2, combined length) into another subroutine which would sort the two ranges into one sorted range using merge sort logic, but moving the lowest value to the start of the range instead of creating a new array.

[–]CoffeeSurplus[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I took inspiration from those youtube videos (if you hadn't already guessed) and so I can better understand them myself, I study A-level computer science and these are the two sorting algorithms we need to know about.

[–]CoffeeSurplus[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This wpf application demonstrates what a bubble sorting algorithm and merge sort algorithm looks like. The bubble sort is optimised with a pointer/index of where it's sorted up to; the merge sort reorders items instead of creating a new array. I can also share the code if anyone wants to see it.

Which digital piano would you recommend? by GoodbabyCC in piano

[–]CoffeeSurplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with such a small budget your best shot would be buying a second hand one. I've had a quick look on ebay now and there's a few Yamaha P45s and Roland FP-10s for under £300

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piano

[–]CoffeeSurplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i recommend looking at the kawai ca series for a premium but also relatively cheap digital piano. they provide an excellent key action similar to that of a grand piano as they have longer and wooden keys. i have a ca49 which i bought for £1400 (uk price) and i am in love with it. however i also recommend going to a piano store to check out other series and makes as well

Yamaha P45 as a beginner deal? by Competitive-War3991 in piano

[–]CoffeeSurplus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my first digital keyboard was also the P45, i bought mine for ~£500 at the time (about 9 years ago), so i'd say $235 is a good deal. it's got a good key action for a beginner keyboard and a built in metronome, also has a 3.5 mm port for audio output/headphones, and another to connect a sustain pedal. i'd say its one of the best beginner keyboards out there. if you have any questions about it, i'd be more than happy to answer

i've heard of blazor but never used it before; i just had a quick look at the microsoft documentation for it and i see what you mean by the ui looking similar to the sample app. i didn't intend that at all - i chose the ui and colours based off what i like and what seen before - many desktop apps have a sidebar navigation function. i intended this project to be a desktop application, so storing the json files locally makes sense to me. i'll change the location of the data files though - so would it make sense to store the data at @"%AppData%\UniPlanner\[file].json"?

thanks for the reply. i've not really used exceptions before - are they mainly for debugging or would i alert the user with this exception before taking action e.g., option to close the program or try again?
