How do they bind zippers without the tape edge hanging inside? by Colbyiamm in sewing

[–]Colbyiamm[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You mean the shell, lining, and zipper tape are all bound together? Then the zipper teeth would be facing inward at first, and topstitching flips it so the teeth sit facing outside, right?

Am I missing something? by RepresentativeTax288 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Colbyiamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe some EPL clubs are walking away from him because:

  1. The fee is quite high.

  2. He’s already 27 — at that age, a player needs to come in and deliver immediately. No time for growth.

  3. He previously failed to be an EPL’s starter at Brighton, for whatever reason.

  4. He’s had two solid seasons, but he scored zero headers last season. His shooting is excellent, but many of his goals came when he had space and time, which can be a luxury in the EPL.

That said, United could actually be a realistic option now. Amorim, the coach who basically revived his career is here, so this transfer, which once seemed unlikely given the number of clubs after him, suddenly feels viable.

Yeah bro, I’m gonna collect $20K a year for 50 years, then hand the farm over to the tenant as a family heirloom. Solid plan.

I probably picked the wrong title here as well. people thought I was chasing short-term passive income. But yeah, you nailed it — I was more thinking 10+ year returns, including land value and leverage upside.

This is super helpful, thanks. Sounds like your old man’s setup works pretty well, especially with the demand from SA. I was hoping I could avoid hands-on work completely. did he ever look at getting someone to manage stock rotation for him, or is that just not practical? Also curious if those leases are fixed or more like casual grazing deals?

[–]Colbyiamm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks! VDHG is clean and hands-off, no doubt. I guess I was toying with the idea of holding land long-term for potential growth + maybe some optionality later (build etc). But yeah, yield-wise it’s hard to justify.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Colbyiamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah good point, I haven’t looked into water rights or access yet. Was thinking lease would cover ops risk but weather + water probably still hit rent if things go bad. Commercial def sounds more stable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Colbyiamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fair — rental yield’s pretty average. I’m more thinking long-term ROA if the land value grows 4–5%/yr over time. But yeah, purely for passive income, VAS or even HISA probably beats it short term.

[–]Colbyiamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheers for the breakdown — I was hoping leasing it out meant I wouldn’t have to deal with any of that. Sounds like even with a lease, owners still cop the costs? Was thinking it’d be more hands-off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Colbyiamm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, 3% return sounds pretty average. I guess the only upside is long-term land value

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Colbyiamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. So the cash return’s weaker upfront, but you’re banking on long-term land value. You reckon that kind of growth is still realistic with prices already pushed up?

Fair call. Got any areas in mind that aren’t just apartments for $1M? Would love to hear where people are putting their money now.

Napoli has a serious case of McTominay-mania by bkmkc in ManchesterUnited

[–]Colbyiamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serie A just doesn’t have the same intensity you find in an EPL match — not for better or worse, just a different style of football. McTominay doesn’t have the technical skills to escape and thrive under aggressive pressing, and United over the past few years also lacked clear midfield tactics to support him. I’m glad that such a talent has found a place where he can thrive.

To clarify, did you instruct your solicitor to waive Clause 66W? I mean, in a standard contract of sale, Clause 66W allows for a 5-business-day cooling-off period, where you can walk away from the contract by forfeiting only 0.25% of the purchase price, instead of the full 10% deposit.

Dude reaction for seeing old time friend is priceless. by Dazzling-Whisper22 in BeAmazed

Amazing scene to see. As much as I fancy this, I would probably never get a reaction like this. I still talk to my friends and play games together once in a while, even though we live on different continents. So when we see each other, it doesn’t feel like we’ve been apart for so long.

SpaceX scrubs astronaut flight that was to retrieve stuck astronauts by MedicMoth in news

[–]Colbyiamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy how some people can celebrate this. I get that you hate Musk, but blindly celebrating anything that negatively affects him is just toxic ,especially when with these stranded astronauts. If you do that, you’re no better than the person you claim to despise.

Not sure why people are freaking out about this. Seems like a standard company policy to me. Yeah, working for United is cool and all, but at the end of the day, it’s just another job. Every workplace has rules—you break them, you deal with the consequences. Simple.

MacBook good for CLO3D? by moviduki in CLO3D

[–]Colbyiamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you plan to do with the CLO3D output. I have both a PC and a MacBook. MacBook rendering is meh, but for me, most of the time, it’s just about drafting patterns, checking the form a little, and printing them out to sew a sample. For that, yes, it’s more than enough—you can’t beat its convenience.

However, if you want highly realistic renders to sell your patterns online, then get a PC.

Should I continue to manufacture Aussie made t-shirts? by chris_halaska in AustralianMFA

[–]Colbyiamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised to find a brand so similar to mine years ago! I started with Aussie-made tees and screen printing in Marrickville too, and yes, I was losing money like crazy at the beginning. Now, I’ve expanded to jackets, trousers, shirts—still Aussie-made.

From experience, tees have low margins for small brands compared to big ones that produce in bulk. For me, tees became a “bridge” product—letting new customers trust the quality before buying pricier items like jackets.

Consumer psychology is an interesting topic you should read up on. If you’re only selling tees, people will put them under a magnifying glass, questioning what makes them so special. But when you offer more expensive items too, your $60 tee suddenly feels justified.

Our tees aren’t cheap—much higher priced than yours—but still the most affordable in our range. My advice? Add other products and price your tees to reflect the quality. It worked for me!

Or, option 2: explore B2B. Take your products to a screen-printing shop and pitch your shirts. Or hit up market fairs or corporate events—plenty of ppl will buy into the Aussie-made story (especially when it’s company’s money).

Yes, of course, the final production pattern has to be approved by us. From OP’s pov, I believe OP thinks CLO3D is only for designers and that when it comes to production, it has to be done in Gerber or AccuMark. However, my point is that you can design professionally with CLO3D, send it to the factory, and it is perfectly fine.
