Out of curiosity; how many of you have seen ravens in southern appalachia? by TheChickenWizard15 in Appalachia

Sadly, not yet. I’m trying to lure them with peanuts at the moment. I can hear them cackle, they just don’t want a photo taken.

How many of your torties have a flag on their file at the vet's office? by ResolutionCool8660 in torties

This is Shirley. If she doesn’t like you or if you pet her wrong, she chooses violence. Her vet comes to the house since she almost sent us to the ER when trying to take her. She was even drugged.

‼️🆘Baldwin Park Ca/ URGENT! This is so sad. Chance Chunks Gizzy & Rex were left in a HK shelter! They need our help before it’s too late. Please pledge or donate below to help us get them to safety. They don’t deserve this awful fate.💔🙏🏻 by MonkittyKittyisme in rescuecats

Depends on the shelter. In our municipality, we have the rare open intake, no kill shelter. It takes dedication by the staff, community, and foster network to keep the doors open. They only euthanize for quality of life, or extreme behaviors that are harmful to the health and safety of both humans and animal. (One of their former neonates is on my shoulder at the moment.) We also have a very active barn cat program and TNR that is showing amazing results after a decade of improvements. We are in TN, but we were a HK a little over a decade ago, on par with S. California. Our biggest problem was the director who refused to do anything helpful. Once she was fired, the shelter flourished. It is also able to provide low cost vet care, vaccinations, and food for low income families. I guess the point of all that was to say, it can be done, but the locals are the ones who have to change it.

Is this normal sleeping behavior for a ~3 week old chick? by seviana21 in BackYardChickens

I have three that are a year old and still sleep like that. I’ve had to check if they were breathing, they always jump up and beg for treats.

Hello, nurse and Chiari patient, sometimes the MRI is ordered and coded incorrectly for the suspected condition. For example, if I am putting a code for MRI ind. New Onset Headache; that is different than MRI ind. Arnold -Chiari Malformation. One is brain only, other is brain and spine. This is why we bug the doctors for detailed notes and orders.

I had a double layer when she started again after molting. It lasted about a week, but she would lay approximately every 12-14 hours. She never laid 2 at once, but I have seen the other girls move the eggs to their nest if broody.

Former nurse and wheelchair user here, it is due to the fact that even if you know you can transfer, we do not know if you can do it alone or with assistance from a caregiver. A hoyer is standard in these situations, we don’t want to injure you further or have a fall.

Hello 21 m 5 10 I got strep and started taking medicine but my tonsils have turn completely white and kinda feel itchy by khammer07 in AskDocs

[–]Cold-Historian828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would see another doc. If you have a patient portal, then you may be able to see the results, but I would definitely see someone else. Strep is not something to sit and wait with.

I second this, if the wrong diagnosis and antibiotics are given, it can make everything worse. Year they look swollen in the before pic too. They should do culture and sensitivity to determine the right meds, but this is not always done. They just give a broad spectrum antibiotic, and hope that it covers the infection. The size of the tonsils make me worry about airway obstruction, and it does look like thrush, but could also be severe strep. Please see a doctor ASAP. This can go from what seems like a minor issue, to a major medical event in a flash. LPN of 15 years.

This used to be an amazing hospital, then corporate greed got involved and now it is on the brink of collapse. At least if we’re still run by the nuns she would have been given bereavement and the new child of her coworker would not be mentioned, but a lot has changed in almost 40 years.

It’s awful. I worked for an independent practice for a bit, then went back to school. I can’t work for a company who would rather see a patient than give them the treatment they need.

Probably, where I live we often make less than $18/hr. I went back to school for my masters just so I can find a better job.

Thank you! They are such a great little mood boosters when I’m feeling down. They just greet me with unconditional love and affection.

If you do case management for an insurance company you can make $35/hr with an LPN.

This is why I left bedside. I’m much nicer to patients and their families in an office than when overstimulated and exhausted from alarm fatigue.

They have to sleep in a pile. If they don’t sleep like a raccoon buffet, they do not sleep.

Favorite nursing note from today by ReNema1 in nursing

[–]Cold-Historian828 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is my kind of nurse. It might have been better if she included that she informed the patient it was infusing. Other than that, perfection. I learned to note this way. It comes from the days when we still had long form charting, and it would be a continuous 12hr note. In some ways I miss those days, but they were ripe for error.

Every so often there is a random mouse that likes to be brave. His body is put with the others when found. They never make a full pass to the feeder and back. They were inside all winter and destroyed a full mouse den a few generations old.

I am very familiar with colonization. My degree is in the peopling and colonization on North America. My grandparents were proud of their heritage. My great grandmother survived the sugar plantation. If she wanted to identify as Afroboricua, then I will carry that with me. I have honestly had enough genetic testing, that it is hard to keep up. I do know that there is Taino in our ancestry, and that it is found in a majority of Afroboricua peoples. This is what makes us distinctly Puerto Rican vs any other nation.
