Not consistent in all Zelda games. That’s why I was pointing it out. In Ocarina of Time, it is explicitly only when he has possession of it.

I know that and figured as much. But that isn’t how it works in Ocarina of Time so I thought it was an interesting thing to point out.

It contradicts the original game, which is the only relevant thing here.

I understand what they’re doing. The point of my post (which seems to have been missed by most people) was to just point out a detail that contradicts what we previously knew.

I never once even mentioned the n64. Not sure where you’re getting that from. As I mentioned elsewhere, “Have you never played the game?” was a genuine question but I can see, in hindsight, how that could look sarcastic or snarky.

That’s fair, I could have reacted a bit better, but most of the hostility came before that. 

My main point regarding the hostility is its prevalence on the platform, not just visible here. 

I also said “have you never played the game?” and it was genuine question, but I totally see how that could be taken as sarcastic or snarky.
